RE: Is there a way to preserve pbuilder chroot environment?

2014-03-01 Thread Bas van den Dikkenberg
I use a hook withs give me root access to build env when a build is failed

Added this line to .pbuilderrc
HOOKDIR=/var/cache/pbuilder/hook.d

And placed the file C10shell in there with this content:

#!/bin/sh
# invoke shell if build fails.

apt-get install -y --force-yes vim less bash nano
cd /tmp/buildd/*/debian/..
/bin/bash /dev/tty /dev/tty 2 /dev/tty

With this give you access to build enverement

If you want to copy stuff out of the env you can the do by accessing your build
directory and copy the stuff y

Bug#735130: RFS: libapr-memcache/0.7.0-2

2014-02-03 Thread Bas van den Dikkenberg
Hi,

I made this packages the day i was rused to the hospital, and i uploaded the
wrong version to mentors, probably because i wasn't feeling wile and because
mentor didn't gave lintian warning i assumed it was oke .
Not an a excuse sorry for that.

I didn't get this library to work as multi-arch so i stopt the attempt to make
this a multiarch libary , don't thinks this library is suitable for multiarch

So i just uploaded the good version can you have a look ?

And yes i always build using pbuilder with these option

pdebuild --auto-debsign --debsign-k E231FCB2 --debbuildopts \-sa\

And i do a build for i386 amd64 kfreebsd-i386 kfreebsd-amd64 and test the
result with lintian

Bas van den Dikkenberg

 Hi,

Err, Multi-Arch: off isn't valid. I'm going to assume that was a silly typo
 and
what you really meant was Multi-Arch: same, but in case you're not quite
sure, I recommend referring to the Debian wiki [1].

Don't forget to test your package by building it in a clean chroot (e.g.
 pbuilder/cowbuilder/sbuild, etc.)!

Onderwerp: RFS: ptop/3.6.2-7

Hi Bas,

I suggest to do the following changes:
- Remove machine/m_gnu.c from debian/patches/ptop_hurd,
 done
- Add cp -f machine/m_linux.c machine/m_gnu.c to debian/rules,
Not done, i adjusted the configure file to use m_linux.c so no copy is needed
- Add debian/clean containing machine/m_gnu.c,
Not done, i adjusted the configure file to use m_linux.c so no cleaning is
needed
- Add similar changes for the other arch(s) with the same problem,
- Rename debian/patches/ptop_hurd to debian/patches/archs,
  done
- Update Architecture: in debian/control.
  Done

I'm not sure about removing hppa and powerpcspe from ptop's archs list because
I don't know the issue with debhelper on these archs. Is it really a permanent
problem ? Maybe ptop can have Architecture: any.
This page
http://buildd.debian-ports.org/status/package.php?p=debhelpersuite=sid
states No entry in hppa database, check Packages-arch-specific but this page
https://buildd.debian-ports.org/quinn-diff/sid/Packages-arch-specific
seems to fail at this time.

I looked this up:
http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-docs.html#s-copyrightfile
must be accompanied by a verbatim copy of its copyright information
should name the original authors

Added to copyright

I see in the file LICENSE that William LeFebvre is copyright holder but that is
not yet mentioned in debian/copyright. That's a must for debian-policy.

I see that there are quite some authors. Mentioning them in debian/copyright
is a should for debian-policy. To help you with listing them, I found these
authors so far:

  Andrew Herbert
  Andrew S. Townley
  Anthony Baxter
  Ariel Faigon
  Christos Zoulas
  Joep Vesseur
  John Haxby
  John Schimmel
  Kevin Schmidt
  Larry McVoy
  Mike Hopkirk
  Richard Henderson
  Sandeep Cariapa
  Thorsten Lockert
  Torsten Kasch
  William LeFebvre
  Rich Holland
  Mark Wong

Except Mark Wong i added them as coauthors,
Do I need to add there email address also ?

If not oke please email, if uploaded a new version to mentors

I think that the list is pretty complete, but it's possible that I've missed a
few. I have left out the e-mail addresses to prevent complaints about spam. I
suggest to add this list to debian/copyright. It's a should for
debian-policy.

Regards,

Bart Martens

Hi Bas,

I suggested earlier to have another look at the list of architectures for these
reasons :

- m68k is twice on the list,

Oke removed one

- hppa is not on the list but removing hppa is not mentioned in
debian/changelog,
Added to changelog
- powerpcspe is on the list but the build fails for the same reason as hppa.
Removed from control and added to changelog
Architecture: amd64 armel armhf i386 ia64 mips mipsel powerpc s390 s390x sparc
sparc64 sh4 ppc64 powerpcspe m68k m68k armhf alpha hurd-i386

There are some typing mistakes in debian/changelog.

corrected

It would be nice to have 3.6.2-7 and 3.6.2-8 combined into only 3.6.2-7, but
it's not really an error.

Done

It is good to see that hurd-i386 is back. I guess you don't have a solution
for the other removed architectures yet.

DOne

I see that debian/patches/ptop_hurd contains machine/m_gnu.c and that file
contains this:

 * AUTHOR: Richard Henderson r...@tamu.edu
 * Order support added by Alexey Klimkin k...@klon.tme.mcst.ru
 * Ported to 2.4 by William LeFebvre

But I don't find any Henderson in debian/copyright. I also don't see any
license for machine/m_gnu.c. Maybe Barry deFreese knows more, since he is
mentioned in the patch as the author of the patch.

After doing a diff with machine/m_linux.c these files are the same but this the
fix to let it work on hurd.

I just uploaded the new version to mentors

You're trying to do the wrong thing: debhelper is arch:all, so it will be the
same across architectures. If you see a build fail on hppa/powerpcspe that says
something along the lines of:

,
| Dependency installability problem for burp on powerpcspe:
|
| burp (= 1.3.6-2) build-depends on one of:
| - debhelper (= 9.20120528)
`

That means that a suitable version of debhelper is not installable on the
architecture. There's nothing you can, or need to do about it. Once the arch
catches up (if ever), this problem will go away.

I don't think its useful to track issues in the bug tracker that do not affect
the package currently in Debian. And unless 1.3.1-1 also had this problem, the
Version: field in the bug report is wrong.

You also don't need to mark bugs as fixed as the archive software will do so

Hi,

now, that you've updated your package I finally reviewed it. These are my
comments:

* Do not set urgency=high. There is no point in doing so unless you fix a
critical security issue.

* There is an invalid changelog.dch file left over. Please remove it.

* Do not modify previous changelog entries, especially not in NMUs. I mean this
hunk:

 mod-gnutls (0.5.10-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream release (Closes: #602957)

- -- Jack Bates ms...@freezone.co.uk Tue, 19 Jul 2011 09:38:29 -0700
+ -- Jack Bates ms...@freezone.co.uk Tue, 19 Jul 2011 09:38:29 -0700
+

* It's acceptable to update the DEP-5 URL since you are going to work on the
package anyway. However, mention this in your changelog.

* In the default-tls file, please remove extra white spaces (line 1, line 4,
line 41 and line 42)

* Remove the /doc alias and associated configuration from the default-tls file.
See DSA 2452-1 for more background on that

* Do not hard code the error log path in the very same file. Instead use
${APACHE_LOG_DIR} as a prefix. Likewise for the access.log.

Hi Bastiaan,

please rework your changelog. Only by reading the changelog I wouldn't know why
it would be appropriate to NMU it. Did you try to contact the maintainer? The
problem was reported yesterday.

There is a typo. Moreover, you should mention the two bugs this fixes.

don't do this in a NMU.

Please send an updated package and I'll see what I can do, given I broke it at

I realize that, but I won't NMU a package because of a less severe bug.
I will, however, because you accidentally fix a serious bug along (but you
don't mention this in the changelog, see #667626 and #669476) unless the
maintainer steps in first.

Bug#661498: RFS: burp/1.3.1-1 -- Simple cross-platform network BackUp and Restore Program (new upstream release)

2012-02-27 Thread Bas van den Dikkenberg
Package: sponsorship-requests
Severity: normal

  Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package burp

 * Package name: burp
Version : 1.3.1-1
Upstream Author : Graham Keeling keel...@spamcop.net
 * URL : http://burp.grke.net/
 * License : AGPLv3
Section : utils

  It builds those binary packages:

burp - Simple cross-platform network BackUp and Restore Program
burp-dbg - debugging symbols for Burp

To access further information about this package, please visit the following
URL:

  http://mentors.debian.net/package/burp

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

dget -x http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/b/burp/burp_1.3.1-1.dsc

More information about hello can be obtained from http://www.example.com.

  Changes since the last upload:

  * New upstream release version 1.3.1
  * Switched to Standards-Version 3.9.3 Debian bug: (Closes: #661001)
  * respect noopt in DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS. Debian bug: (Closes: #661281)
  * Fixed typo in logrotate script Debian bug: (Closes: #660964)
  * added debug package Debian bug: (Closes: #661267)
  * EFS support on Windows.
  * Move to using mingw-w64 for both 32bit and 64bit Windows builds.
  * Add 'exclude_fs =' option for Linux so that you can skip partitions
types (for example, tmpfs) without generating warnings.
  * If recovery method 'resume' is set, but the includes/excludes change,
switch to 'use', then start a new backup.
  * In the tests, check to see whether it looks like the server has finished
the backup before moving on, rather than just waiting a set amount of time.
  * Add man pages for bedup and burp_ca.
  * Add Bas van den Dikkenberg's tweaks for getting burp into official Debian
and Ubuntu repositories. Burp is now in debian sid and ubuntu precise.
  * Make the server tell the client what extra_comms features it supports, so
that, in future, old servers are more likely to work with new clients.
  * Improve 'make clean'.
  * Add option to strip off leading path components on restore.
  * Fix segfault that was happening on the server when SSL_accept() failed.
  * Move burp and bedup to /usr/sbin (you need to check that any cron jobs
are pointing there too).
  * Moved list of things to do to https://github.com/grke/burp/issues

  Regards,
   Bas van den Dikkenberg

No, please read about the use of the different suites in Debian and how
packages migrate between them. [1] has a short description in the
 second half of the section.

Also please don't include the ABI version in the source package name
unless you know why you want to do so.

(Personally I also don't see a use in having multiple changelog entries
for the initial upload, but other people might have a different opinion
 about this.)

There's no need to remove debian/* subdirectory from original tarball.
Since 3.0 source format it's being overwritten automatically by the files from

This way it's easy to create non-native package and have orig.tar.gz unmodified.

It is easy to customize with config file,

I find this password very good and better then the other 3 you mentiond.

For example you can exclude letters and numbers that look like each other.

Just like name says it make your password Readable

control:
Burp is a backup and restore program. It uses librsync in order to save onr

*onr* looks like a typo, everything else looks like good example to be
proofreaded by native English speakers.
debian-i...@lists.debian.orgmailto:debian-i...@lists.debian.org is good place
to ask for such proofreading.

rules:

Please check if these overrides are really necessary, this one looks strange
for me:

override_dh_auto_configure:
./configure

dh_auto_configure basically does this + --prefix=something

overrid_dh_fixperms:

You've just changed permissions of all files to be world readable.
I guess upstream wanted them to be private for some reason.

Consult with it what are the correct permissions and if they have to be 600
then add lintian override file and not make them world readable only to make
lintian happy.

Not ok ;)

There's no need to remove debian/* subdirectory from original tarball.
Since 3.0 source format it's being overwritten automatically by the files from
package_version.debian.tar.gz.

This way it's easy to create non-native package and have orig.tar.gz unmodified.

I run lintian over it and got shocked a little:

Yep... and I don't want them. Are you going to fix at least errors?
Most warnings are also easily fixable.

Are you going to work on it?

W: burp: wrong-name-for-upstream-changelog usr/share/doc/burp/CHANGELOG.gz

Remove changelog from docs file and install it with it debhelper script.

E: burp: possible-gpl-code-linked-with-openssl

This has to be clarified with upstream.

If this is for security reasons then override it for lintian.

W: burp: extra-license-file usr/share/doc/burp/LICENSE.gz

Not needed since it's license included in /usr/share/common-licenses

E: burp: dir-or-file-in-var-run var/run/burp/

Need to be created by start script.

E: burp: init.d-script-missing-dependency-on-remote_fs etc/init.d/burp:
required-start
E: burp: init.d-script-missing-dependency-on-remote_fs etc/init.d/burp:
required-stop

start script needs to be fixed.

W: burp: binary-without-manpage sbin/bedup
W: burp: binary-without-manpage usr/sbin/burp_ca

Would be great to have it fixed, but it can be done later.

W: burp: maintainer-script-empty preinst

You can remove that file.
