Bug#698501: RFS: vorbisgain/0.37-3 -- add Replay Gain volume tags to Ogg Vorbis files

2013-01-19 Thread Daniel Martí
Package: sponsorship-requests
Severity: normal

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package vorbisgain.

 * Package name: vorbisgain
   Version : 0.37-3
   Upstream Author : Gian-Carlo Pascutto g...@sjeng.org
 * URL : http://sjeng.org/vorbisgain.html
 * License : LGPL-2+
   Section : sound

It builds the following binary package:

vorbisgain - add Replay Gain volume tags to Ogg Vorbis files

To access further information about this package, please visit the following
URL:

  http://mentors.debian.net/package/vorbisgain

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

  dget -x
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/v/vorbisgain/vorbisgain_0.37-3.dsc

The changes from the last version are pretty straightforward:

 * Removed 0001-temp_files.patch
- Upstream's 0.37 already solved this issue, thus there's no further
need for this patch. (Closes: #537043)
 * Fixed vorbisgain.1 to make the use of -r clearer. (Closes: #698253)

Thank you for your time.

The packaging work will surely require you to create a bunch of ruby gems

Aye! While I'm not up on Ruby policy, I'd be more then happy to brush up

I would be happy to help with that and review and/or upload packages for

Bug#660128: RFS: heybuddy/0.2.3-1 [ITP] (16th week)

2012-06-13 Thread Daniel Martí
Build-dependency on python is insufficient. As per dh_python2
manpage, it should be (= 2.6.6-3~).

Fixed.

Similarly, Depends of the binary package is not sufficient. Please
 use ${python:Depends} (instead of hard-coded python (= 2.6)),
so that dh_python2 can generate the dependency automatically.

Fixed.

What is /usr/share/pixmaps/heybuddy.png for? Also, aren't files in
/usr/share/pixmaps/ supposed to be in XPM format? (Please forgive my
 ignorance on this subject.)

heybuddy.png is its icon image file. A quick scroogle search for debian
filelist /usr/share/pixmap png shows many packages shipping both .xpm
and .png files, and as there are no lintian complaints in respect to
that, I'm going to assume that's not a problem.

Shebang of the script is #!/usr/bin/env python.
#!/usr/bin/python is strongly preferred (see Python Policy 3.1).

Added a quilt patch to solve that, thanks.

 Copyright/license of CertificateValidatingHTTPSHandler.py is not
documented in debian/copyright. Is CC-BY-SA-3.0 compatible with
 GPL-3?

CC-BY-SA 3.0 is accepted by the DFSG, but not by the GPLv3. I've emailed
the upstream author about the subject. For now, debian/copyright has
been solved.

A new .dsc file is up at mentors.debian.net:
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/h/heybuddy/heybuddy_0.2.3-1.dsc

Thanks for your help, Jakub.

Bug#659522: RFS: prelink/20111012-1 [QA]

2012-06-12 Thread Daniel Martí
Dear Mentors,

There's a new version of prelink up at mentors.debian.net.

Here is the full changelog:

prelink (0.0.20111012-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * QA upload.
  * New upstream release. (LP: #731719)
  * Switched to source format 3.0 (quilt).
- Refreshed all patches.
  * Bumped debhelper compat level to 7.
  * Some lintian complaints solved.
- Add ${misc:Depends}
- Changed deprecated dh_clean -k by dh_prep in debian/rules
- Added build-arch and build-indep to debian/rules
- Added a debian/watch file
- debian/NEWS doesn't use a bulleted list anymore
- Added a Homepage field
- execstack's Conflicts: prelink is now Replaces: prelink
- Added dh_md5sums to binary-arch
- debian/rules now imports dpkg build flags
- postrm uses set -e in its body rather than in #!
- Added prelink.pdf to doc-base
- hyphens.patch solves the hyphens - minus signs lintian complaint
- manpage-spelling.patch corrects a spelling mistake (Closes: #418805)
  * Bumped standards version to 3.9.3.0. No changes needed.

In respect to the last upload, I've added the changes in -5 and -6, and
I've added three more fixes of my own: doc-base, hyphens.patch and
manpage-spelling.patch. With these three, we can now assure prelink is
100% lintian clean, including all pedantic warnings :-)

I've read quite a bit on the kfreebsd-i386 problems with ELF, but I
have encountered a different solution in every thread on the internet.
Some said to patch libelf.h, which is sadly not shipped with prelink. We
have libelf-0.7.0.patch, but that patchs a nonexistent file. We do have
libelf.m4, but I have no clue as to how to modify it.

Some other threads suggest moving on to elfutils, but I'm not sure how
would that be done. Since debian/rules makes no reference to any of the
two, I suppose it would need a quilt pach.

Anyhow, for now this is as far as I've gotten.

Cheers.

retitle 659522 RFS: prelink/0.0.20111012-1 [QA upload] - ELF prelinking utility
to speed up dynamic linking
thanks

Guys,

I started my package again from scratch from 0.0.20090925-4 to make sure
all your changes are taken into account. Problem is, for some reason I'm
stuck with the switch to 3.0 (quilt). Did any of you change
debian/rules?

Anyhow, this is the basic procedure to get to my error:

apt-get source prelink
cd prelink*
deb3

(deb3 is a script that converts all dpatch patches to quilt and adds
the 3.0 (quilt) bit to source/format)

repack *.diff.tar.gz into *.debian.tar.gz and try to build. It will
throw these errors shorty after gcc:

/usr/bin/ld: /tmp/ccH3oLmR.o: undefined reference to symbol 'bar'
/usr/bin/ld: note: 'bar' is defined in DSO ./reloc1lib1.so so try adding
it to the linker command line
./reloc1lib1.so: could not read symbols: Invalid operation
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
cp: cannot stat `reloc1': No such file or directory
FAIL: reloc1.sh
PASS: reloc2.sh
/usr/bin/ld: /tmp/ccP4mMtb.o: undefined reference to symbol 'f3'
/usr/bin/ld: note: 'f3' is defined in DSO ./reloc3lib1.so so try adding
it to the linker command line
./reloc3lib1.so: could not read symbols: Invalid operation
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
strip: 'reloc3': No such file
cp: cannot stat `reloc3': No such file or directory
FAIL: reloc3.sh

There's about two pages of them, then fails and so doesn't build. The
deb3 script is well able to convert all the patches with no errors,
that's not the cause. This happens with 20111012-1 as well, in the exact
same way. I've tried compat level 9 on both of them, both failed
equally.

Since the last time I did the 20111012-1 package from 2090925-1 it
worked flawlessly with the same dpatch - quilt script, I'm assuming
some change took effect between revisions 1 and 4 that broke this
package for quilt, but apparently not for dpatch.

Any clues?

P.S. I tried once again, now deleting debian/patches completely. 3.0
without patches fails, but 1.0 succeeds both with and without patches.

I did remove them before running deb3, that's not the problem. Moreover,

As a first step when inspecting the package, I compared the 'original'
source archive that you uploaded, with the one that looks like

 http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/p/prelink/prelink_0.0.20111012.orig.tar.gz
 http://people.redhat.com/jakub/prelink/prelink-20111012.tar.bz2

Can you explain why they differ ? Is it the Lintian description that
confused you to repack the archive instead of patching it ?

Thanks for looking over the package. And sorry for the delay.

I did not know we could have orig's packaged in any other format other
than .tar.gz. I suppose renaming it to prelink-20111012.orig.tar.bz2
would be enough? All the patching is done via *.debian.tar.gz as usual.

That doesn't seem to make much sense. Where does burp come in here?
Unless you've packaged the wrong debian/control file, I can't understand
why would it warn about burp's build-depends if it's neither any of the

Bumping six RFS bugs

2012-03-10 Thread Daniel Martí
Dear Mentors,

These last weeks I've been filing some RFS bugs as follows:

RFS: preload/0.6.4-2 [ITA] - http://bugs.debian.org/658306
RFS: xfonts-bolkhov/20001007-7 [ITA] - http://bugs.debian.org/658426
RFS: prelink/0.0.20111012-1 [ITA] - http://bugs.debian.org/659522
RFS: identicurse/0.9+dfsg0-1 [ITA] - http://bugs.debian.org/660982
RFS: vorbisgain/0.37-1 [ITA] - http://bugs.debian.org/662035
RFS: heybuddy/0.2.3-1 [ITP] - http://bugs.debian.org/660128

Jakub Wilk and Jerome Benoît have suggested some improvements upon a few of
them, but so far no sponsoring has taken place. I don't mean to disturb your
work as volunteers, thus why I've been waiting and will do so for another
three or four weeks before bringing up the topic again.

My sole intention is to move forward so I can help debian a bit further - a
non-DM having more than six adoptions going on at once doesn't seem sensible
to me, at least as far as I can tell.

That being said, just wanted to thank everyone who is involved in this
mentoring project. Really helpful.

Cheers,

Daniel.

A new package is available at mentors as shown below:

http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/p/prelink/prelink_0.0.20111012-1.dsc

I've solved these issues:

* Errors.
* Pedantic and informational complaints are gone as well.
* I've added a Closes:LP bug which requests the latest upstream version to be
  packaged.
* Bumped standards version to 3.9.3.

There are two W: I have left out for now:

W: prelink source: ancient-libtool ltconfig
W: prelink source: ancient-libtool ltmain.sh 1.4.2

Since the lintian description tells me to contact upstream before patching
with quilt (which would give extra work), I've sent a mail to Jakub about the
subject. I'll wait a week or two for his answer. For the time being, the newer
upload seems to be fine apart from those two warnings.

I'd be very glad if someone sponsored this package for me.

xfonts-bolkhov-1.1.20001007.orig, instead of xfonts-bolkhov-1.1.20001007. I
just renamed that folder and repacked the orig file. I know this breaks the

the orig part.

What do you think about it?

Bug#660128: RFS: heybuddy/0.2.3-1 [ITP]

2012-02-29 Thread Daniel Martí
Dear Jakub and Benoît,

Thanks for your help. I've learned quite a lot from fiddling with debhelper.
There is a new revision of heybuddy up at mentors.debian.net:

http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/h/heybuddy/heybuddy_0.2.3-1.dsc

I've solved these issues:

 * debian/watch. Typo.
 * debian/control. Spell checking stuff moved to suggests (yes, both are
   needed), bumped to 3.9.2.
 * Moved manpage to (1).
 * Now using dh $@ --with python2, with dh_auto_install overrides. It seems to
work; correct me if anything is wrong.
 * Cleared the manpage from the stuff you told me (wrong copyright holder,
AUTHORS and COPYRIGHT). It has also been rewritten.
 * Added #! and set -e to both postinst and prerm scripts. I hope /bin/bash is
fine, or should it be /bin/sh?

Stuff I haven't solved:

 - Modules are not re-byte-compiled when the default Python version changes.
 * How should I solve this? I understand the problem, but scroogling around
   hasn't shown me any tips.
 - In the same file, you run compileall unconditionally; I guess it should only
   run during configure.
 * Pardon my ignorance, but the link to the debian guide you attached doesn't
give any kind of specific help and I have absolutely no idea as to how to
   solve this issue.

I'm obviously open to more suggestions, and welcome any patience you put in
this :-)

Cheers,

Daniel

Re: Adopting

2012-02-27 Thread Daniel Martí
Hello,

I already downloaded and analyzed the source code so I want to start
working on it. Also, what does maintaining means? Just correcting
bugs
or improving it? Like UI or something?

Maintaining a package is to do all the work of taking a non-Debian work
and making it a Debian package, conforming with Debian policy,
receiving
and addressing bug reports on the package, advocating for its users,
and
so on.

Have in mind you don't need to be a programmer to do such work; many packages
just need lintian cleaning (debian/*) and bug fixing, which can often be either
easily fixed or forwarded to upstream :-)

Cheers!

retitle 658306 RFS: preload/0.6.4-2 [ITA] -- adaptive readahead daemon

I've been working further on this package. The changelog now looks as follows:

   * New Maintainer (Closes: #646216)
   * Switched to 3.0 (quilt) source format.
   * Corrected the logrotate location. Thanks to Tobias for the patch.
 (Closes: #619384)
   * Improved init.d script
+ Add init.d status support. Thanks to Peter Eisentraut for the patch.
 (Closes: #645156)
+ The script now provides itself.
   * Created debian/watch.

You can get the source files as usual:

dget -x http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/p/preload/preload_0.6.4-2.dsc

The new changes since the first mentors upload are the watch file and the
init.d script providing itself. Apart from that, there's another error I
haven't been able to solve:

  I: preload: spelling-error-in-manpage usr/share/man/man8/preload.8.gz
configuratoin configuration

When a quilt patch is created for that purpose, for some reason it doesn't
work. Maybe because debian/rules contains the following in clean:?

rm -f src/preload.8 # generated at build time by help2man

Here is the dpkg-buildpackage -sa report:

  patching file src/preload.8
  Unreversed patch detected! Skipping patch.
1 out of 1 hunk ignored -- saving rejects to file src/preload.8.rej
  dpkg-source: error: LC_ALL=C patch -R -t -N -p1 -u -V never -g0 -E
--no-backup-if-mismatch preload-0.6.4/debian/patches/manpage-spelling.patch
gave error exit status 1
  dpkg-buildpackage: error: dpkg-source --after-build preload-0.6.4 gave error
exit status 1

And then there's --pedantic, showing another small bit:

  P: preload: copyright-refers-to-symlink-license usr/share/common-licenses/GPL

Should I solve it? I would very much like to, but then, which GPL license
should I refer to when I don't know which one to choose? (GPL-[123])

Thanks for your time,

Daniel

PS: Still looking for a sponsor, thus I would really appreciate it if someone
helped me through this adoption :-)

First let me point out, I don't see much reasons to upload this
package to Debian (not that I could anyway). It was orphaned and
should rather be removed than uploaded. You even say yourself your
primary purpose is to learn packaging [1], hence I'd suggest you to
pick a package you really care for instead.

Of course. I did not know packages could be left aside for that reason; thanks
for pointing that out

The package you picked has a low popcon [2] no reverse dependencies
and seems generally not helpful at all. That said, if you really want
to maintain this package that's up to you. Here is a review:

* You modified the orig.tar.gz tarball somehow:

$ md5sum deb-version/xeji_1.2.orig.tar.gz
mentors-version/xeji_1.2.orig.tar.gz
afc838ca6174ac98d67b1580832e24d4 deb-version/xeji_1.2.orig.tar.gz
68893c38485b8063cdd6fbe81da76e11 mentors-version/xeji_1.2.orig.tar.gz

That's not acceptable, especially since the tarball was already
uploaded to Debian archives. Thus, you are not allowed to change the
tarball anymore, once it was uploaded without pushing a new upstream
version.

Hmm, I don't know what happened there. I don't recall modifying orig.tar.gz.

Feel free to remove the wontfix tag once you addressed the tarball
issue. Everything else is of lower importance.

Since I won't adopt this package, should I re-orphan it and close this bug? Or
is there something else I should do?

* debian/compat 6 is somewhat outdated these days. Joey released
debehelper 9 just recently. Note, using compat 6 is not a tragedy, but
you would profit from using compat 7 or higher a lot.

* The synopsis line of the package is not really helpful (yet another
whatever does not help anyone) and does not match our guidelines [3].

* You use the old copyright format, consider upgrading to DEP-5
instead (that's optional of course).

* Why do you install manpages manually in debian/rules? You should use
dh_installman instead. This makes both, the install rule and the
dirs file unneeded.

* You should use the short dh form. Check [5] and dh(1) for examples.
Most people consider the old-style debhelper form deprecated. While
you are it, remove the source and diff targets. They are obsolete
since ages it appears.

* The package breaks the hardening release goal [6]. See [7] to learn
how to apply hardening flags.

* Since you upgraded to 3.0/quilt there is no point to add manpages as
a patch anymore. Just put the file into debian/ and install it as I
outlined above.

* patches/xeji_c.patch misses an appropriate DEP-3 header (that's
optional again)

* Don't override I: and W: tags in Lintian. Moreover, note your
explanation for overriding
copyright-should-refer-to-common-license-file-for-gpl is wrong.
That's not what the tag is about.

* Remove the README.Debian file. The URL is dead and its information
is redundant to debian/copyright.

Thanks for the feedback. Apart from the switch to quilt, all the comments above
refer to stuff that the old maintainer did without much documentation.

Orphan it again. Regarding this bug you can either close it or we
reassign to ftpmaster and ask them for a package removal.

Orphaning again, OK.
And as far as this bug, I'll leave it up to you :-)

Yes, I understood. However, times change as do packaging styles and
available technologies. This package wasn't touched for years. It is
your job to bring a package in shape if you want to take it over. :)

Agreed. I didn't mean I wouldn't solve those issues, the fact is that since
support for this package will be dropped, there's no need in talking about them
:-)

Thanks!

I *suggested* that to you. It's your or anyone else's decision whether
or not to maintain a particular package. If people including you find
it interesting enough, feel free to maintain it.

*I* wouldn't bother - if you do, that's fair enough.

Oh, don't take me wrong - You pointed it out, I didn't feel in any way obliged
to follow your suggestion. I just think you're right; the package has been
abandoned upstream for years now.

Cheers!

Make sure the .orig.tar.gz and .debian.tar.gz are correctly named, and if you
are just doing a debian update (e.g. upstream.version-2) make sure to build the
package with dpkg-buildpackage -sa. Then, dput mentors *.changes should do the

I might be of help. I'm not member of the l10n english team, but since I'm
catalan as well I should be able to spot common spanish/english writing
mistakes.

Daniel

Re: dmaths: 30 days waiting for sponsor (package already in Debian)

2012-01-14 Thread Daniel Martí

$ dget -q
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/d/dmaths/dmaths_3.4+dfsg1-2.dsc
curl: (22) The requested URL returned error: 404
dget: curl dmaths_3.4+dfsg1-2.dsc
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/d/dmaths/dmaths_3.4+dfsg1-2.dsc
failed

I confirm that behaviour. Maybe it's in the ftp server?

RFS: xeji

2012-01-14 Thread Daniel Martí
---BeginMessage---
Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package xeji.

   Package name: xeji
   Version : 1.2-15
   License : GPLv1
   Section : x11

It builds those binary packages:

xeji - Yet Another Follow the Mouse X demo

To access further information about this package, please visit the following
URL:

  http://mentors.debian.net/package/xeji

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

  dget -x http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/x/xeji/xeji_1.2-15.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me. This will hopefully be
my
first package update, so please be patient in case I made any mistakes. Thanks
for
your time.

Kind regards,

Questions on maintaining xeji

2011-11-22 Thread Daniel Martí
Hello, my name is Daniel and I've recently filed an ITA against the RFA bug for
xeji (wnpp list). I've gone though most part of the new maintainer's guide, as
well as the packaging basics. I do know how to make a package from scratch and
build it, but I am having more trouble with creating a new revision for xeji
(which would close the ITA bug).

Would any of you be willing to be my mentor and guide me through this? I am not
looking for a teacher, but just for some specific assistance and sponsorship.
Any help would be very appreciated.

Thank you very much in advance for your time.

Hello Daniel,

Thanks for your interest in this package. It looks simple enough to
be a perfect first package !

The basic thing for preparing a package would be to add a new
changelog entry, and of course fix a few things for your first
upload. For example, you can make the package lintian clean (including
removing some unnecessary overrides).

I know how I must update the changelog and the maintainer in the description
(control?). Any other files I should change? Of course, I should sign it with
my own key.

You can do it by hand or using the dch tool (from the devscripts
package). But the best would be to use a VCS helper such as
git-buildpackage. The intermediate steps are not visible in the
resulting .dsc and .debs, but it helps you remember where you were and
allows easier collaboration (just like with source code).

If you have any questions about it, feel free to ask in this thread,
so that either me or another one can reply to them.

In fact, I do :-) What should I send to the sponsor, the .deb file or some
other file?

Have a nice day !

Thank you so much for your interest!
