As the OP already said, please just put calf-plugins to recommended, not as a
dependency. Maybe it is not important in context of easyeffects, but I have
issues with the calf-plugins inside Ardour, suddenly the UI can not be opened

I want to add that Ardour not only crashes when exporting audio, it very
often crashes during the following tasks as well:
* Using ZanAddSubFX as instrument in a MIDI track and trying to save the
settings with save instrument from within ZynAddSubFX.
