2. Background
-------------
Applicant writes:
I started using GNU/Linux in 1998, and since 1999 as my primary OS.
In 2003 I wanted to write and read with the Sinhala script on GNU/Linux
and found that it was not possible. Since then I have been spending my
spare time on adding/improving Sinhala script support on GNU/Linux,
which involved working closely with upstream maintainers of various i18n
infrastructure.
Often, getting the latest fixes into the hands of users involved
creating patched deb packages. The m17n related Debian packages are very
important for i18n support and were not being maintained. I volunteered
to maintain them since I already had an established relationship with
upstream.
I am interested in Input Methods and Text Layout. I would like to see a
more seamless integration i18n on GNU/Linux. I am also interested in
NFS.
3. Philosophy and Procedures
-----------------------------
Harshula has a good understanding of Debian's philosophy and
procedures and answered all my questions about the social contract,
DFSG, BTS, etc. in a good way. Harshula committed to uphold the SC
and DFSG in his Debian work and accepts the DMUP.
4. Tasks and Skills
-------------------
Harshula has a good understanding of the technical side of Debian.
Harshula is maintainer of m17n-* and libotf, all maintained as DM.
All packages are in good shape.
Harshula also answered my other questions regarding T&S without
problems.
5. Recommendation
-----------------
I recommend to accept Harshula as a Debian Developer.
