Our reasoning was that either he would get advocacies that included elements about packaging, and then, depending on how both DAM/FD would feel, we could still convert the process to a DD, upl process and do some T on the fly, or have Phil become a DD, NU and encourage him to submit a DD, U application. Should he get only NU advocacies, then the NU process would still be good to go and Phil would eventually become a member. The upload pard would just be a matter of time, as any NU DD can get upload rights on a package in the meantime. I hope this makes things clearer. :) Bests, -- Pierre-Elliott Bécue GPG: 9AE0 4D98 6400 E3B6 7528 F493 0D44 2664 1949 74E2 It's far easier to fight for principles than to live up to them. signature.asc Description: PGP signature

I have not talked to the other DAM trainees about this and certainly not to the delegated members of the account managers. It's not at all clear to me the above is true. I think it's likely that you managed to catch people while they weren't available and to have a bit of trouble finding advocates. And/or advocates might have thought they needed to assert personal knowledge beyond what they did. It's possible some of your advocates would recommend you get a bit more experience before applying for DD_U. It's possible that this was an unfortunate misunderstanding/timing. Given that you already have a dd_nu process going and in the works, my recommendation is that you let that go forward. And then, when you get to a point where you want to be a dd_u, even if that's a relatively short time after you become a dd, write to n...@debian.org and ask for how to proceed. (If you have advocates already lined up and just click the button on the website, that's fine too). I think that's especially true if being able to sponsor things would help you in your mentorship work. Again, speaking only for myself, as an individual. --Sam signature.asc Description: PGP signature

It would seem to be > more consistent with your Debian involvement history! Hi Gunnar, thank you for caring about my application. I did originally apply for uploading, as it seemed the default way, but I struggled to find sponsors. I've deliberately avoided collecting a large QA page so I can avoid leaving any to bitrot, but that means I don't have much experience with difficult packages. I think it's fair to say I don't meet the requirement to "be trusted to have full, unsupervised, unrestricted upload right now". https://qa.debian.org/developer.php?login=deb...@emorrp1.name Additionally my most recent involvement, which I apparently omitted from my Intent, has been more around the onboarding of new contributors and coordination of others' work on kotlin. I enjoy being in a supportive role and am ok with finding initial sponsors followed by upload delegation on a per-package basis. The only DD restriction I'll miss out on is the ability to directly sponsor uploads from mentors.debian.net. I'm also intrigued to see if more long-time DMs join me in becoming DD non-uploading first, and sooner in their contribution lifetime. signature.asc Description: PGP signature

After reading the two mails that support so far your request, it grabs my attention that both Norbert and Markus mention working with you on activities that imply uploading -- "taking over the orphaned qalculate packages", "packaging contributions for games", "technical work accurate and correct"... My question is, why not applying for uploading DD? It would seem to be more consistent with your Debian involvement history! Greetings, signature.asc Description: PGP signature
