Done.

Sadly this subject isn't underway for this GSoC.
And I'm not able to mentor this subject (not fluent in english, nor DD).

You don't need to be a DD to be a mentor

Fluency in English is not a core requirement either

The biggest requirement is having time during the summer to interact
with interns and help them feel welcome in the community.  No mentor has
all the answers: good mentoring often involves helping them find their
answers in the community.

OK, thanks for your explanation.

I take 2 days to read about all of this (mentorship, GSoC and Debian in
GSoC) and to make a decision.

Doğukan, thanks for your interest in this topic!

Regards,

Fred

Hi,

I actually really encouraged myself to apply this project for GSoC (A calendar
database of social events and conferences). Will it possible for me to apply
for this project ?

Dogukan.

Thanks to Daniel to suggest this subject.
Thanks to Renata for her work on the MoinMoin EventCalendar plugin.

Unfortunately, I couldn't be at FOSDEM.

For the Social event and conference calendars project, I know a project
that seems relevant : OpenEventDatabase
(https://github.com/openeventdatabase/)
Manual and functionalities already implemented :
https://github.com/openeventdatabase/backend/wiki

Ideas about this project start on OpenStreetMap datamodel versatility
(key-value for all) and the need of a database for the « when » main
axis (OSM is for the where…).

Christian Quest (OSM France ex-president) start talking about this on
2013 (on hackpad, now unavailable).
He talk about that on 2016 OSM conference :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FNwbioRjQw

The database and API start to be implemented on 2016-05.

This project already collect events from existing Open Databases, like
the « Agenda du Libre » (https://www.agendadulibre.org/) and many
OpenData French sources.

https://twitter.com/openeventdb (french)

The security and events ownership model is still simple. I have ideas to
improve contribution process and collaboration but for this moment not
writed in english…

I know that my suggestion is really late.
I hope this project will help you to reach your goal.

I’m also interested to contribute to a web front-end for the database
you choose.
And to integrate events from others data sources (pyvideo datas, local
cultural and association events…)
