What you could also do is to boot from a Debian installer medium and do
"Recovery". You can then enter the system and issue the command as given
by Adrian.

Did you actually enable LXDE from the task selection during
installation? When I tested
the image on my G4, I selected MATE and it installed fine. I did have
to install the
firmware though but nothing else.
I installed LXDE manually, so no, I did not use the task selection.
I am
PowerMac 7,3 G5 2.5 DP PCI-X Mid-2004 is affected with this bug. The
machine freezes at boot due to the new ppc64 kernel.
