Bug#1025068: ITP: prefixdate -- Prefix date parser

2022-11-29 Thread Edward Betts
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Edward Betts
X-Debbugs-Cc: debian-de...@lists.debian.org, debian-python@lists.debian.org

* Package name: prefixdate
  Version : 0.4.1
  Upstream Author : Friedrich Lindenberg
* URL : https://github.com/pudo/prefixdate
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : Prefix date parser

  This is a helper class to parse dates with varied degrees of precision. For
  example, a data source might state a date as `2001`, `2001-4` or `2001-04-02`,
  with the implication that only the year, month or day is known. This library
  will process such partial dates into a structured format and allow their
  validation and re-formatting (e.g. turning `2001-4` into `2001-04` above).
  .
  The library does not support the complexities of the ISO 8601 and RFC 3339
  standards including date ranges and calendar-week/day-of-year notations.

I plan to maintain this package as part of the Python team.

Updating python-pint, and python-pint vs python-babel

2022-11-29 Thread Stuart Prescott

Hi folks

The version of python-pint currently in sid is not compatible with the
version of python-babel, with the version of babel being too new. The
result is that pint currently FTBFS in sid: #1022469.

The pint package has received a substantial update from its upstream
authors. This new version of pint is still _not_ compatible with
babel>2.8 but does sort out some problems with babel. A couple of tests
need to be xfailed with a patch to let it build. That's a clear
indication that we're ignoring problems not solving them, but it's
better than the current situation of not having pint in bookworm at all.

The advantage of updating python-pint is that it is closer to working
with the babel we have in sid. Updating pint also permits other packages
to build (like superqt). I've got updated packages for python-pint
(0.20.1-1) and superqt (0.4.0-1) ready to upload.

It's not perfect but seems like a step forward. Thoughts?

cheers
Stuart
