What's the use-case for this package in Debian? It's a bit of a weird
library (digging around in the user's browser profile isn't something
expected).

The general use case is mostly for scraping utilities that require a
session cookie, one logs in to the site, then this library can help
getting the cookie so that the requests including the cookie can be made.

The specific use case is that a next version of instaloader
(https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/instaloader), a Instagram scraper, will
probably require this library (the current RC version includes the
feature that uses this library).

Please prepare some packaging on salsa and get some review of it. I

As a matter of fact, I have already done so:

Hi everyone!

I would like to join the Debian Python team, primarily to
maintain/update python-firehose (I got permission from paultag for
that), and potentially to add more Python packages, as I am about to
package a larger Python project for Debian (the only thing that seems
to be missing in our repos is mautrix-python though).

My username on Salsa is mak as well, and I have read the policy
document at

Thanks to everyone for maintaining Python and its packages, it's a
great resource and I am looking forward to helping out with the
firehose package.

Request to join the team

2022-11-08 Thread Lance Lin
Dear Debian Python Team,

I would like to formally request to join the Debian Python Team.

Requirements per the policy:

Why do I want to join:
I plan to work on various request for packaging (RFP) posts. Many of these are
python-based.
[1] Bastian Germann suggested I join the python team as a RFP he made for a
python project has 3
additional new package dependencies, also python. This will require some effort
from DDs to

sponsor these packages. I have a good track record of supporting my packages
and will continue
to do so as part of this team.

My salsa id: linqigang

Statement: I've read the policy and accept its terms.

Thank you for your consideration,

Just to give some context, I offered my help with this package when it
had a RFA [1] and it was already part of the old DPMT [2].

However, I was not aware when I did my first upload that I was also
moving it out of the team's supervision. I did this inadvertently, and
even though you did let me know a couple years ago [3] I completely
missed it.

Today I prepared an update with the latest upstream release plus some
improvements, and now that I noticed I would like to correct my
mistake and take the package back where it was. I am maintaining the
package for fun and to learn, so shifting the work to someone else
would not make much sense. :)

Of course, if you consider this is no longer a good fit for the DPT
that's okay! I just agree with Mattia and believe that team
maintenance makes more sense, especially for an inexperienced
maintainer like myself.

I hope that helps clear your doubts.

you only maintain this package, you have not uploaded it in more than
3.5 years, and that package received 3 NMUs in the last 2 years; how
can you reassure that you're going to actually take care of this
package moving it to DPT, instead of letting the team essentially

Hello,

still need a sponsor). After I get more comfortable, I can assist with
maintaining python-ldap3, python-ldap as well as taking care of some RFPs.

I have been packaging proprietary software for Debian as part of my job

to Open Source.

My Salsa login is lamaral, but my account is not activated yet. Once I

currently resides in my GitHub[2].

I have read and I accept the the Python Team Policy.

Hello!

Stefano: Thanks for reviewing my email! and not just my email, all the others

people who welcome new people rarely, but I'm probably way out of touch.

My official statement: I would like to join the Debian Python Team to
maintain the pyupgrade, patch-ng, and the eventually the conan Python packages.
I have read and agree to the DPT policy, and I have subscribed to the

It appears I'll temporarily have to bounce back pyupgrade and patch-ng's

standards-version to be upgraded to 4.6.0, and have final extra double-checks.

Finally, for the record my public SSH and PGP key can be found just commited

I'm not going to add you to the team, immediately, without some visible

However, I've granted you access to the feedparser repo for a year,
which should be all you need for now. After an upload or two, request

Sometimes the most effective way to get things sponsored in the python

Yes, you can. Or the other way around if you want people in the team to
feel free to work on your package (this tends to be rare, though).

If the team is an uploader or maintainer of the package, it should live
in the team repos.

You can move existing package repos into the python-team/packages group.

Yes, you can delay adding the team as a Maintainer, until the package is
moved into the team salsa group.

In Debian we generally consider the Maintainer and Uploaders of a
package to all be the maintainers of the package. The Maintainer field
only permits a single entity while Uploaders permits more.

In the Debian Python Team, we have some extra nuance about whether the
team is in the Maintainer or Uploaders field. Team as maintainer means
anybody can work on the package, team as uploader means feel free to
commit changes to git but ask for permission before uploading. This is
unusual, I don't know of any other teams that do that.

Request to join the team by Christian Buhtz

2021-09-12 Thread c.buhtz
Dear team members,

I want to introduce myself and also to request joining the team.

> Why you want to join the team

I want to package feedparser [1][2]. The main reason is my own
software (not yet released [3]) depends on it. I am in good contact
with the upstream maintainer for years and he supports my goal. And some
of your team members still offered to sponsor me.

In the faraway future I am willing to take care of the package
"backintime", too; just because my life and my good sleep depends on
it. ;)

> Your Salsa login.

"buhtz" (still waiting for admins approval)

> A statement

I read and accept the Debian Python Team - Policy at [4].

About me [5]:
My name is Christian Buhtz, I am in my end 30s and do life and work in
Germany. I am a nursing scientist ([6][7]) preparing the beginning of my
PhD and currently involved in analyzing (and managing) secondary data.
Before that I did research in the context of assistive devices and
robots in health care. So there is a bit programming stuff in my main
job.
In private I work on a (not yet released) news-aggregator [3] (aka
Feedreader) for RSS/Atom feeds. My main language is Python.
Before my scientific work I was a pediatric nurse. Before that in the
far away past I was a low-level (low educated?) software engineer
working in a small software house on individual software mainly with
C++. I would say most of my IT skills are based on self-learning
without any commercial interests.

Please feel free to ask more questions.

Hello everyone,

Quick introduction about myself: I maintain the Ubuntu Cinnamon Remix and
highly respect Debian (it's what everything is built off of). Norbert Preining
recently stepped down as Cinnamon maintainer for KDE, and now we are sort of in
a limbo state with me and Fabio Fantoni. However, neither of us are able to
pass the NM process, primarily due to GPG keys/lack of contributions/work to
Debian. Although I had a higher chance, and was able to maintain it longer, we
are behind on the latest version, and I pretty much seemed to have no interest
in the BTS. My previous RFS's was a handful of Nemo extensions, which happened
to be at the time Bullseye freeze depression struck, and they were all expired.
Now I'm trying to package things to rack up some contributions to Debian (and
Ubuntu in that vein) by packaging more things.

Anyways, personal story aside, so everyone knows where I'm coming from (because

I've packaged pyupgrade, a "tool to automatically upgrade syntax for newer
versions". I was told at the DebConf BoF on etherpad to request to join the

  1. Can I be the maintainer for pyupgrade and have the team as an uploader?
I'm asking this because the wiki mentions rule of thumb is the team maintaining
to find a 'knowledgeable person'.
  2. Can I join the team and later move pyupgrade to the python-team repos?
This way I can still upload my package(s, and more as I heard some help is
needed for pip at the BoF), and get contributions in for my NM.
  3. When I join, for the initial release: can the git repo still be my
personal salsa repo and use pypi? This way I can just get it pushed, and then
later it can be adjusted to pull from a GitHub tag and moved to the team.

Even after I get my maintainership for Cinnamon, I still want to stay a part of
the python-team because I use a lot of it and would love to help the team.

So, with that being said, can I join the team, how should I carry the initial
release out? Let me know when you are ready for me to open an RFS.

pyupgrade has been packaged + request to join the team

2021-08-27 Thread Joshua Peisach

Anyways, personal story aside, so everyone knows where I'm coming from (because
you won't find me on contributors.debian.org), the point of this is to announce
I've packaged pyupgrade, a "tool to automatically upgrade syntax for newer
versions". I was told at the DebConf BoF on etherpad to request to join the

request to join the team

2021-05-14 Thread Felix C. Stegerman
Hi!

I'd like to join the Debian Python Team :)

I develop several Python libraries & tools, which I'd like to package
and maintain for Debian, such as:

* apksigcopier [1], which has already been sponsored by Holger Levsen.

* kanjidraw [2], for which I need a sponsor :)

* jiten [3], which I hope to package soon as well.

Currently I'm perfectly happy to maintain all of these packages by
myself, other than needing a sponsor. But I'm happy to accept help
from the team and contribute to other packages when I can.

My salsa login: obfusk
I have read and accepted
https://salsa.debian.org/python-team/tools/python-modules/blob/master/policy.rst

Thanks!

Request to join the team

2014-10-12 Thread debian
Dear all,

some of you may have noticed my e-mail about approaching the recent
"Attempt to unlock mutex that was not locked"-issue that several
(Python) applications encounter [1].
Anyways, after several years of using Debian --and always returning from
straying toward derived distros-- I would like to start giving something
back and start packaging myself.

My current interest lies with RabbitVCS [2] and especially its client
for the filemanager "nemo". Since there already exists some package for
Linux Mint, I consider this task to be a useful exercise for focusing on
the process of packaging. Furthermore, I am in touch with the upstream
developers of RabbitVCS and would like to strengthen the cooperation
with this project for the good of both Debian and the project itself.

Vincent offered me to sponsor a nemo-rabbitvcs package. Please add me to
Alioth group for write access to the svn so that I can go ahead and upload.

Regards
Torsten

I added you to the team. Welcome :-)

Please note that Deepak Tripathi mentioned recently that he wants to
work on new upstream release of python-couchdb - please ping him on
#debian-python (nick: deepak) or send him a mail.

python-couchdbkit's RC bug is actually waiting for #576383
(python-restkit is in NEW already).
