Description : Modeling and fitting in Python

Sherpa is a Python package for modeling and fitting. It enables the user to construct complex models from simple definitions and fit those models to data, using a variety of statistics and optimization methods.

It was originally developed by the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory / Chandra X-Ray Center as part of the larger CIAO package for X-ray data analysis [1].
Recently it became on open-source, open-development project [2] and
development was moved to Github [3].

It will maintained within the Debian Astronomy Working Group.
A git repository will be created on alioth [4].

I’ll attend the sprint [5] tomorrow and will try to follow the
instructions at [6] to get this packaged for Debian.

Best regards,
Christoph
