Hi, to put the code where my mouth was I tried to make a patch for mailman using the python-register utility. It was just moving files around - so I could fire up python and do an 'import Mailman'. Unfortunately, I cannot test more of mailman at this time. Its always like this, you want to patch something quick and end up in a search for segfaults in obscure C programs (first, the /bin/sg link was broken, and then after fixing this, /bin/sg segfaulted). And now I cannot get /cgi-bin/ to work with the apache2 package. So real success with the mailman will have to wait a little more, just wanted to let you know that python-register can even be used for mailman.
