Bug#644356: [backuppc] In host summary, column sort doesn't work well

2018-11-13 Thread Adrien Grellier
Hi,

The bug was with firefox. I just re-tested it with firefox 60 from
Debian Stable, and it is now properly sorted :)

Maybe it was a more a problem of firefox than backuppc.

Kind regards

Adrien

Hello,

translation files for czech and polish (cz.pm, pl.pm) have the following
problems:
- automatic translation translated also email headers like Subject:
and To: thus the emails are not deliverable.
- text in headers should be either plain ascii or properly encoded (rfc2047)
- both files are written in cp1250 (windows encoding !!!) but the cgi
does conversion from iso-8859-1 to utf-8 so it breaks diacritics - files
have to be converted from cp1250 to utf-8 and uncommented line use utf8.
- czech transalation needs proofreading (maybe polish as well)
- emails sent have content-type text/plain; encoding iso-8859-1 by
default, it should change to utf-8 for languages that use utf8.

Diff fo cz.pm attached:

I have more and more IPv6-only hosts. But if I add one of them to
hosts.cfg, I always get "host not found" as error message.

In the documentation under "How BackupPC Finds Hosts", it says:

> First DNS is used to lookup the IP address given the client's name
> using perl's gethostbyname() function. This should succeed for
> machines that have fixed IP addresses that are known via DNS. You can
> manually see whether a given host have a DNS entry according to perl's
> gethostbyname function with this command:
>
> perl -e 'print(gethostbyname("myhost") ? "ok\n" : "not found\n");'

Example:

→ host ipv6.google.com
ipv6.google.com is an alias for ipv6.l.google.com.
ipv6.l.google.com has IPv6 address 2a00:1450:4016:80a::200e
$ perl -e 'print(gethostbyname("ipv6.google.com") ? "ok\n" : "not found\n");'
not found

So I can't backup this host despite SSH has no problem at all to reach
that host.

BackupPC should probably move to use Socket.pm's getaddrinfo instead as
it is IP-version agnostic.

So far I found no configuration-only workaround (i.e. disabling DNS
lookups at all as SSH does that already.)

Thanks for the note to README.Debian for #594091. I am filing
another bug as a reminder to fix the underlying problem at a later
point:

BackupPC uses gethostbyname(), which is broken and deprecated.
Please use getaddrinfo() instead.

Hi,

one of the mails BackupPC can send uses the abbreviation "IS" in its
template. I assume it is meant as abbreviation of "IT Support":

# dgrep " IS " backuppc
/usr/share/backuppc/lib/BackupPC/Lang/uk.pm:network during the last $days days
you should contact IS to find
/usr/share/backuppc/lib/BackupPC/Lang/ru.pm:network during the last $days days

/usr/share/backuppc/lib/BackupPC/Lang/ja.pm:network during the last $days days
you should contact IS to find
/usr/share/backuppc/lib/BackupPC/Lang/en.pm:network during the last $days days
you should contact IS to find

Position in the source code (en.pm):
https://sources.debian.net/src/backuppc/3.3.1-1/lib/BackupPC/Lang/en.pm/#L1303

In other mail templates, "computer support" is used instead, e.g. here:
https://sources.debian.net/src/backuppc/3.3.1-1/lib/BackupPC/Lang/en.pm/#L1270-L1271

Since "IS" never was a very common abbreviation for "IT Support"
(usually just "IT" is used instead) and the abbreviation "IS" is
currently associated with a completely different (and politicially hot)
topic, I strongly recommend to replace those four occurrences of "IS"
with "computer support" as in the other mail templates.

P.S.: We only noticed this because it has been reported to our IT
helpdesk by a BackupPC user who got such a mail and thought it was a
very unlucky typo. (Our common local abbreviation for IT support groups
is "ISG" and the user thought we missed the "G".)

Bug#913693: jailtool: Script accesses internal dpkg database

2018-11-13 Thread Guillem Jover
Source: jailtool
Source-Version: 1.1-5
Severity: important
User: debian-d...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: dpkg-db-access-blocker

Hi!

This package contains a script («update-jail»), which directly accesses
the dpkg internal database, instead of using one of the public interfaces
provided by dpkg. The code should be switched to use for conffiles:

  «dpkg-query --shoformat='${Conffiles}\n' --show»

and for the files list:

  «dpkg-query --listfiles»

This is a problem for several reasons, because even though the layout and
format of the dpkg database is administrator friendly, and it is expected
that those might need to mess with it, in case of emergency, this
“interface” does not extend to other programs besides the dpkg suite of
tools. The admindir can also be configured differently at dpkg build or
run-time. And finally, the contents and its format, will be changing in
the near future.

Thanks,
Guillem

Can you remember which web browser you did use? So far I only saw this

The immediate blame goes to Darcs for producing the first ERROR result
ever on 2018-10-05. Before that, there were only OK and NEW scan
results.

Of course the real blame goes to gnuplot for refusing to plot a column
with a lot of null values and only a real single '1'.

I fixed the issue by adding a '0' ERROR count to the vcsstats table
for the first date where Darcs results were recorded, 2006-10-01
00:00:00+00.

I don't know what triggered this message, as afaik keyring-team stopped
exporting the removed keys keyring quite some time ago…

That's because Vcs-Browse in debian/control points to the debian/sid
branch. Vcs-Git does not.

Either the repo on Salsa should be configured to make debian/sid the
default branch, in which case Vcs-Browse can lose the branch
information, or Vcs-Git should use "-b debian/sid" as documented in
policy[0] and supported by the tools that understand Vcs-*.

Bug#913629: mpt-status only works on controller 0

2018-11-13 Thread Giuseppe Sacco
Package: mpt-status
Version: 1.2.0-8
Severity: normal

Hello,
if you have more than one SCSI controller, depending on the order they
are loaded at boot, the mpt-status does not work.

As an example, if the the machine with these controllers

agenzia-480:~# lspci | grep SCS
03:00.0 SCSI storage controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic SAS1068E PCI-Express
Fusion-MPT SAS (rev 08)
07:08.0 SCSI storage controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic 53c1030 PCI-X
Fusion-MPT Dual Ultra320 SCSI (rev c1)

load the drivers in this (problematic) order:

agenzia-480:~# cat /proc/mpt/summary
ioc0: LSI53C1020A A1, FwRev=01032700h, Ports=1, MaxQ=255, IRQ=16
ioc1: LSISAS1068E B3, FwRev=00192f00h, Ports=1, MaxQ=266, IRQ=16

mpt-status does not work. See:

agenzia-480:~# mpt-status -u0 -p
Checking for SCSI ID:0
Checking for SCSI ID:1
Checking for SCSI ID:2
Checking for SCSI ID:3
Checking for SCSI ID:4

agenzia-480:~# mpt-status -u1 -p

Checking for SCSI ID:2
Checking for SCSI ID:3

Checking for SCSI ID:11
Checking for SCSI ID:12

If you reboot the machine and the scsi drivers are loaded in the
reverse (correct?) order, i.e.:

agenzia-480:~# cat /proc/mpt/summary
ioc0: LSISAS1068E B3, FwRev=00192f00h, Ports=1, MaxQ=266, IRQ=16
ioc1: LSI53C1020A A1, FwRev=01032700h, Ports=1, MaxQ=255, IRQ=16

the command work:

agenzia-480:~# mpt-status
ioc0 vol_id 0 type IM, 2 phy, 278 GB, state OPTIMAL, flags ENABLED
ioc0 phy 1 scsi_id 8 SEAGATE ST3300656SS HS0A, 279 GB, state ONLINE,
flags NONE
ioc0 phy 0 scsi_id 1 SEAGATE ST3300656SS HS0A, 279 GB, state ONLINE,
flags NONE

Please note that I have no other parameters:

agenzia-480:~# LC_ALL=C cat /etc/default/mpt-statusd
cat: /etc/default/mpt-statusd: No such file or directory

This is on debian stretch 9.5, kernel 4.9.0-8-686, but the problem was
present even with debian 8 and debian 7.

Bye,
Giuseppe

P.S. the license file states that the source was downloaded from
https://www.drugphish.ch/~ratz/mpt-status/ , but it seems that this
page is not available.
