Package: xchain
Version: 1.0.1-7
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

when trying to run the game it fails to run and outputs:

Couldn't execute /usr/bin/wish

The executable present in Stretch seems to be named differently:

$ ls /usr/bin/wish*
/usr/bin/wish8.5

The path to the executable seems to be hardcoded in xchain.c line 32

Best Regards,
Andrej Mernik

Bug#891699: Removed package(s) from unstable

2018-03-03 Thread Debian FTP Masters
We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following
package(s) have been removed from unstable:

referencer |1.2.2-2 | source, amd64, arm64, armel, armhf, hurd-i386, i386,
kfreebsd-amd64, kfreebsd-i386, mips, mips64el, mipsel, powerpc, ppc64el, s390x

--- Reason ---
RoQA; unmaintained; depends on unmaintained gconfmm2.6
--

Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag
database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite
references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references
it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the
master archive and will not propagate to any mirrors until the next
dinstall run at the earliest.

Packages are usually not removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks
unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed
from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency
problems. The release team can force a removal from testing if it is
really needed, please contact them if this should be the case.

We try to close bugs which have been reported against this package
automatically. But please check all old bugs, if they were closed
correctly or should have been re-assigned to another package.

Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
have further comments please address them to 891...@bugs.debian.org.

The full log for this bug can be viewed at https://bugs.debian.org/891699

Hi,

gnome-common did a cleanup upstream and deprecated quite a few macros
and variables.

gnome-doc-utils removal
===
The gnome-doc-utils build infrastructure was removed completely along
with the following macros:

 GNOME_DOC_INIT [1]
 GNOME_COMMON_INIT [2]

deprecated variables

The following variables used in gnome-autogen.sh have been declared
deprecated [3]:

 REQUIRED_GNOME_DOC_UTILS_VERSION
 REQUIRED_DOC_COMMON_VERSION
 USE_COMMON_DOC_BUILD
 FORBIDDEN_M4MACROS
 GNOME2_DIR
 GNOME2_PATH
 USE_GNOME2_MACROS

deprecated macros
=
The following macros have also been declared deprecated:

 GNOME_COMPILE_WARNINGS [4]
 GNOME_CXX_WARNINGS [5]

Upstream has documentation at [6] with how you can fix your package and
why those particular changes were made.

According to codesearch.d.n your package referencer uses one of the macros or
variables so might be affected, especially once you run autoreconf. Please
update your package accordingly and forward it to upstream if possible.

If you have further question, please don't hesitate to ask.

Regards,
Michael

All links on the start page of Referencer's online help are broken when German

Is it ok that the links have FIVE slashes after the "file:"; e.g.:

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
 Stumbled over referencer with apt-cache
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
Tried to import documents with Documents->Add Folder
   * What was the outcome of this action?
Received exeption: No such file or directory
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
 Importing the documents

my first try-out with referencer ended with this error by importing new
documents:

Exception: No such file or directory
The opration underway was: "executing UI action"

I attached a screenshot.

I guess it would be a usefull program since i already saw the LyX button. :-)

Sincerely,

Adrian Immanuel KIESS

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Hi,

I found some issues concerning the desktop entry file of referencer:

The TryExec field is useless. [1] states this field is supposed to call
an executable to find out if the program is actually installed. This
field is optional and I suggest to remove it from the .desktop file.

The Exec field calls referencer without an absolute path. I'd suggest to
call /usr/bin/referencer directly as this avoids messing with users'
PATH environment.

The program desktop-file-validate (package desktop-file-utils)
complains:
 [ snip ]
/usr/share/applications/referencer.desktop: warning: value
"GNOME;Application;Office;" for key "Categories" in group "Desktop
Entry" contains a deprecated value "Application"
 [ snap ]

I've attached a patch that hopefully addresses all issues.

Cheers - Fuddl

Hi,

referencer seems to build fine with multiple build jobs when building.
Thus, my suggestion is to enable the parallel build (with the
--parallel option of dh) to speed up the compilation when requested
(see also Policy §4.9.1).

Thanks,

Dear Maintainer,

If one adds a bibtex reference like the one given below, which has an
"illegal" character (in the doi entry just before "d"), to the
referencer library, Referencer would not complain and would save the
library. But, it would not be able to open it in the next launch, giving
the error message "Exception: Could not parse the 'reflib' file".

One has to remove these "illegal" characters manually.

@Article{2006relationship,
title = {The relationship of MPDATA to other high-resolution methods},
  year = {2006},
  doi = {10.1002/d.1084}
}

Referencer does ignore addresses that include % and does not save them
to the database. It must at least do the same here.

Package: referencer
Version: 1.1.6-1+b1
Severity: minor
User: debian-pyt...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: python2.6

Hello,
One of the changes brought by Python 2.6 is the removal of string
exceptions, so they won't work in Python 2.6 (just a side note: they
were also buggy before, since they were not guaranteed to work
reliable even in <2.6); as an example:

$ python2.5 -c "raise 'eggs'"
-c:1: DeprecationWarning: raising a string exception is deprecated
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "", line 1, in
eggs

$ python2.6 -c "raise 'eggs'"
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "", line 1, in
TypeError: exceptions must be old-style classes or derived from BaseException,
not str

Since 2.6 is the planned default version for the upcoming new Debian
stable release, there are chances your package may be affected by this
change.

We are not sure your package is impacted, since the exception raise
can be in a dead or very rare branch of the code, and so simply never
being executed. We would like to leverage your package maintainer
status and the relationship with upstream authors to inspect more
deeply the issue and act accordingly (that includes: making this bug
release critical, closing it as irrelevant, tagging it 'wontfix', or
whatever is appropriate).

Jakub Wilk made the discovery of the problem and kindly prepared a
list [1] of all identified packages (downloaded on 2010-06-09) along
with files & lines that triggered the pattern search.

[1] http://people.debian.org/~morph/strexp/string-exceptions.lintian

This mass-bug filing was announced at 2010-06-06 on [2] (see the
thread and the references there).

[2] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2010/06/msg00097.html

We do not consider the whole situation a stopper for the Python
transition to 2.6, except (of course) for those single bugs where
severity will be increased.

Thanks in advance for your attention,
Sandro on behalf of debian-python

Package: referencer

I usually use the locale de_DE.UTF-8. For purposes of reporting bus in
referencer I temporarily set LANG=C. I was still able to open the reflib
file. However, when I tried to open the "Document Properties" dialog of a
document where some of the properties contained umlauts, I got an error window
with the following message:

Exception: Invalid byte sequence in conversion input

The operation underway was: "executing UI action"

The tooltip for the document still worked and showed the correct umlauts.

Package: referencer
Version: 1.1.3-4+b2
Severity: normal

For my papers and books I sometimes have supporting material, so I want to
have a directory instead of a PDF file in the "Document/File" property of that
document. It is possible to select a directory in the "Select A File" dialog,
although referencer makes it a bit difficult: descent into the directory you
want to select, type "." into the "Location" field and press the "Open"
button. I can then press the "Save" button in the "Document Properties"
dialog, and the next time I double click on the document in referencer
nautilus will open the directory (just like I want it). If I open the
"Document Properties" dialog again however, the "Document/File" property is
reset to "(None)". If I (instead of reopening the "Document Properties"
dialog) save the library, exit referencer, restart referencer and open the
"Document Properties" dialog of the document in question, the "Document/File"
property is _not_ reset. Saving alone without restarting does not prevent the
resetting of the property.

I'm not sure what is the intended behaviour here. Basically I can think of
two possibilities:

 1) Disallow directories completely. Then the trick I used to set a directory
should not work to prevent surprises later.

 2) Allow directories. Then the resetting of the "Document/File" property
should not happen (at least as long as the directory exists). Making it
easier to select directories would be a bonus.

Naturally, I would prefer 2).

Thanks,
Jö.

Package: referencer
Version: 1.0.2-1
Severity: normal

I have a number of PDFs with DOIs appearing in the text, but that
Referencer cannot properly scrape out. There is no true metadata in the
PDF, so it's going for text extraction from the page body. The complete
BT/ET block containing the DOI is at the end of this message, but the
key bit is this:

[(doi:10.1016/)14.5(S)-95.3(0)]TJ
6.3307 0 TD
0.0983 Tc
[(010-0277\(02\)00)-6.3(235-4)]TJ
ET

This causes libpoppler to feed this text to BibData::guessDoi():

  doi:10.1016/S 0 0 1 0 - 0 2 7 7 ( 0 2 ) 0 0 2 3 5 - 4\n

"10.1016/S" is what Referencer records as the DOI. The correct DOI is the above
string with all the spaces taken out, i.e. 10.1016/S0010-0277(02)00235-4 .

Unfortunately, I don't have any concrete suggestion for how guessDoi() could
do a better job in this case without also screwing up other situations (where
random text appears immediately after the DOI, separated only by a space).

Referencer upstream includes its own copy of the bibutils library. As
of recently, there is a bibutils package in Debian that referencer
could use (in principle). I maintain bibutils for Debian, so if
something (aside from the usual lack of time, not knowing about it, etc...)
is blocking referencer from using it, let me know.

Just pimping my packages :-)

Presently, if I manually correct the errors in the information Referencer
downloads from crossref.org (see bug #423584) and then accidentally select
'get metadata' for an article that needed correcting, Referencer will wipe
out my corrections and put back the bad information from online.

Referencer should, for each piece of metadata in its library, keep
track of whether that information was provided by the user, imported from
another reference library, scraped out of the document, or downloaded from
an online source, and should never overwrite information from a source
earlier in this list with information from a source later in this list.

This may sound like a wishlist feature, but it's not, because not doing this
causes data loss.
