Note that I do not plan to reintroduce the gconf module, so fixing this in

The correct upstream bug is the one above. As noted in that page, a
workaround is to export QT_NO_GLIB=1. Exporting it in /etc/environment
worked for me.

updates for that IMAP server. The status bar stays at Checking account:

reported upstream[1], but no action has been taken yet. On said bug, a

Further investigation shows that the culprit was bogofilter. For some reason
it was taking enormous amounts of time (but not CPU power) to process
e-mails, which caused the block.
