Raphael is not the only one to have the fade transitions lack on Amarok.
I use Debian/KDE since 2003 and Amarok suddenly missed that
fonctionality since wheezy I think. That is for me a reason that leaded
me to recently prefer Guayadeque that lacks many other things that
Amarok has. But the

I see. sorry, I didn't know. Now that you mention it, fade doesn't work with
Gstreamer backend either (but replaygain does).
gstreamer + pulseaudio = fade working just fine for me. Make sure you
have fade enabled in your Amarok settings, it's a checkbox. Also, you
need to play more than 5s
