That's a bit of a misinterpretation: Of course I restarted the session as soon 
as I upgraded. The issue is with the KDE-PIM upgrade procedures that happen 
inside the session.

In other words, in order to have a KMail2 that sends mail, you need to restart 
the session *twice* -- one to run the upgrade, and a second one to complete 
it.

As I mentioned in a message to Debian-KDE, the KDE-PIM upgrade should come 
with an explanation message, at least as long as these problems are not 
solved.
