Thanks for the tip. It worked perfectly.
DASD volume is now persistent across IPL's.
Did not have to rebuild initramfs as it's an add on volume.

Today we added a 3390 volume and I was able to get it online and formatted
as /dev/dasdb1.
I can create and mount a filesystem.
