Bug#790196: Rasmol needs severe contribution to stay in Debian
Hi, the bug log of #790196[1] shows that rasmol in its current state will not be distributable with Buster. Upstream is dead so if we want to keep it in Debian we have the option: 1) Port it to Gtk+ 3 (see porting guide [2]) 2) Find a Gtk+ 2 replacement for libvte 3) Give up and remove this package from Debian Since option 3 would be a shame for a package with quite some users[3] (at least in the field of scientific software) I'm hereby making some noise about this. My recent upload updates metadata (Salsa migration), fixed all other bugs and most of the lintian issues. I'd be really happy if someone could spent some time into this Andreas. A way I found to undefine the macro and not messing with the actual source code was to do that by using the flag -Uvector through debian/rules itself. It can also be done by using #undef vector in Imakefile. The patch is attached. Thanks. I was translating the package description of rasmol-doc into Spanish, and I noticed the English original short description begins with Uppercase instead of lowercase. * What outcome did you expect instead? As per https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/developers-reference/ch06.en.html #bpp-pkg-synopsis , begin the short description with lowercase. I've cloned the git repo of rasmol and edited the control file, which includes the description for both packages. I've changed into lowercase the initial letter of the descriptions. Then I git commit, and then git format-patch -1 Attached the patch. I'm not a packager so I'm not sure if modifying this file is enough. -- System Information: Debian Release: 8.4 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 3.16.0-4-686-pae (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=es_ES.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=es_ES.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) >From 0c75f4aa990ad811d2516d38ba54de1afadbd41a Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Laura Arjona Reina Date: Thu, 14 Apr 2016 19:20:28 +0200 Subject: [PATCH] Change to lowercase the initial letter of short description, as per https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/developers-reference/ch06.en.html#bpp-pkg-synopsis --- debian/control | 4 ++-- 1 file changed, 2 insertions(+), 2 deletions(-) diff --git a/debian/control b/debian/control index d200040..848e211 100644 --- a/debian/control +++ b/debian/control @@ -16,7 +16,7 @@ Package: rasmol Architecture: any Depends: ${shlibs:Depends}, ${misc:Depends} Suggests: rasmol-doc -Description: Visualize biological macromolecules +Description: visualize biological macromolecules RasMol is a molecular graphics program intended for the visualisation of proteins, nucleic acids and small molecules.
