The attached patch fixes Firefox on sparc64 for me. The compiled binary
runs but crashes at some point with SIGBUS. This should be easy to debug
with gdb though. Will give a try later.
Thanks,
Adrian

In the meantime, please go ahead and test Firefox on Debian/sparc64
and report back any issues.

You don't need to go through all steps again. Just "make install" is enough.
Unless you call "make clean", the compiled files and kernel are still in the
kernel's source directory.

Did you run "make install" in the kernel's source directory after building
kernel or did I forget mentioning it?
Adrian

Change the first SILO entry to:
image=/boot/vmlinuz-4.8.11
label=Linux
initrd=/boot/initrd.img-4.8.11
You simply forgot to modify silo.conf to point to the correct kernel and initrd.
Currently it's configured to boot "vmlinuz" from the system's root directory
which is most likely
ait for the right device?)

It's missing the drivers for your disk controllers. Are you sure
you built the initrd properly and that the SILO entry for "Linux"
points to
r the affected
architectures until either Google upstream or the maintainer of googletest
can be bothered to fix their software.
I think I don't need to elaborate why not being able to built src:apt is
a bad thing on any architecture.

I will have a look at your comments and improve the patch.

Replaced "LD=ld -m elf64_sparc" with "LD=ld" which essentially
reverts c836dbda which hard-wired the build to 32 bits. Since
both 32- and 64-bit builds are supported these days, this should
no longer be necessary.

Thank you! This is actually very constructive criticism which actually helps
improving the patch. I'll look into improving the Makefile.

anything,
I changed the default target to 64-bit which is somewhat reasonable in the year
2016, isn't it.
Or are you going to tell me now that your 333 MHz, 128 MiB RAM Sun Ultra 5 is
your everyday production machine?
