Hello!
I'm recompiling my kernel and want to include sound support... which
options do I have to enable for my Sun box?
Thanks,
Angel

I've never tried it, but I'm surprised Xsun24 works at all for

Hello!
I've successfully installed slink on my Sparcstation and am very happy
with it, but I have a problem concerning colors under X. I am running the
Xsun24 server, but have got only 16 colors... I'm afraid it is running on
8bits depth (am I right?). I've tried to change that, but I haven't got
It would be helpful to know which framebuffer you have. Even
some that are 24-bit capable I believe are currently supported
as doing 8-bit (which is 256 colors, BTW).
Look at http://www.geog.ubc.ca/s_linux.html and see if it tells
you anything. At worst, if you don't know what card you have,

All info I can see is:

I had to look no further than the two characters GX... you
have a CG6, which is accerelated 8-bit framebuffer, not capable
of doing 24-bit graphics.
Finding a 24-bit framebuffer that'll work with Linux and
Solaris would be a chore. I personally also have a CG6,
though a Turbo GX, which is a
I always wanted 24bit color for my sparc, till I found out the cheapest I
could get a ZX framebuffer (or the one of the SS-5) was going to cost as
much as my Sparc5 did... so, needles to say, I live with the ekky colors
in X. :)

Heh... reminds me... don't even ask what this TurboGX cost me. :)
Oh well... at least X is usable now...
Sun hardware is expensive, but you get what you pay for...

True, it's very nice even if ti dosnt' do 24bit color. Eventually (like

Thanks a lot... I was getting crazy trying to find it out!
My advice? Live with it (still a decent

It was working fine for me (except that I couldn't get 24bits color :)
Anyway... it had some crashes from time to time... I
Blah, that stinks. What about the APx or whatever it is for the Sparc5?
