Agree. I've been remiss at keeping the gcc-4.9 cross compilers
up-to-date since they're now the third-most-recent gcc compilers we
have, and they require more manual effort than they really should.

Yes, I think so. People can make uptodate ones using the cross-gcc-dev
package (which is still being maintianed) if they need a gcc-4.9
cross-compiler.
