When I run a command with debug in xterm, a lot of info scrolls
past. How can I save this to a file? All I get is how to debug

default to en_US.UTF-8.
Now I get:

It may be simply that the config file needs modification, and after a
reboot I'm loosing the custom configuration I create by running
alsaconf. I suspect I need /etc/asound.conf or ~/.asoundrc. I'm not

rub package was originally installed from a running
system (kernel 2.4.27-2-386), by mounting the target disk that has
kernel 2.6.8-2-686 and installing grub from a chroot prompt.

et, changed /etc/hostname, and rebooted; nothing
else. As far as I can make out after a month, this procedure worked
beautifully. I can think of ways it could lead to a problem or two,
but I don't think that denies the basic soundness of the approach.

It loaded quickly on galeon, and then I tried firefox. The first time
I tried it wouldn't load, but I had two sessions of firefox running,
and when I closed one of them and tried it on the other, it loaded
without problem.
