(me parait pas

(pg_migrator, devenu maintenant pg_upgrade pg_upgrade_support) -
il prend en charge les upgrades depuis 8sèpu vers la dernière mouture;

[Desktop Entry]
Name=Nombre de la Aplicacion
Exec=env WINEPREFIX=/home/usuario/.wine wine C:\\Archivos de
programa\\Aplicacion\\aplicacion.exe
Type=Application
StartupWMClass=Wine
Path=/home/usuario/.wine/dosdevices/c:/Archivos de programa/Aplicacion

$lsusb

como respuesta obtuve:

Bus 001 Device 003: ID 04b0:031f Nikon Corp.

http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protocolo_de_transferencia_de_im%C3%A1genespara

$lsusb
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 04b0:031f Nikon Corp.

$gphoto2 –L *salio siguiente mensaje*

2012/4/24 Ismael L. Donis Garcia ism...@citricos.co.cu:
forma

automática la cual corre sobre wine?

Crea un archivo .desktop en ~/.config/autostart

[Desktop Entry]
Name=Nombre de la Aplicacion
Exec=env WINEPREFIX=/home/usuario/.wine wine C:\\Archivos de
programa\\Aplicacion\\aplicacion.exe
Type=Application
StartupWMClass=Wine
Path=/home/usuario/.wine/dosdevices/c:/Archivos de programa/Aplicacion

No me parece mala idea.

puedan haber quedado?

Buenas noches y buena suerte

Puedes intentar
recuperarla con testdisk

Re: Problema configuracion monitor y touchpad post-instalacion Squeeze

2012-04-24 Thread frederit mogollon
Buenas noches.

Me resulta
confirmo).

What kind of disastrous experiences did you have with the WD drives?

I was a happy WD user with their caviar black line, until I started
getting drives which where either faulty out of the box or quickly
dying on me (they where 500GB and 1TB). Arguably every manufacturer as
it shares of defective drives, during the same period I was also bitten
by a Seagate firmware bug (quickly patched) rendering the drives
suddenly unusable at boot time without any prior warning, just to keep
things in fair perspective.
After those bad batches I changed my WD drives for Samsung's, they were
both cheap and efficient, and since they are still running I can now say
reliable too.
Later I felt the need to try so called green drive for use in external
enclosures and NAS, due to their lower power consumption and operating
temperature. I gave WD caviar green EAR* series a shot (1TB and later
2TB), long story short the performances where very poor, the
implementation of advanced format would render them unusable
(incompatible) with most NAS, and tricky to partition in Linux. Even
when properly running the operating temperature wasn't a lot different
from my Samsung's drive, the performance far behind, the price higher,
and the reliability no better. In raid the drives would be regularly
kicked out of the volume, for no apparent reason. After loosing time in
forum and tech support I sent the drives back, got Seagate's Eco green
as a replacement (seagate bought samsung's disk business around that
time), and they are running fine where the WD weren't.

I am no google, on my comparatively very small yearly drive consumption
every bad series becomes a statistical monster, it would probably not be
noticeable on a bigger scale. Still search engines aren't short on WD
green bad stories.

   How to archive this purpose?

I'm assuming you're wanting to provide the proxy? If so, have a look at
http://www.wlug.org.nz/WPAD. Basically, the easy way is to set up a
proxy configuration file at wpad.yourdomain.foo and hpe that clients
find it. Alternatively, you can use your DHCP server to explicitly tell
clients where to look.

Good point :-)

As an aside note, I've been using ReiserFS in all of my linux boxes (in
both, servers and workstations) for the / partition and I never had to
face the long waits at booting till the fsck ends. I know that ReiserFS
(v3) is not actively developed (just security patches) and performs
better for small files but I'm considering in moving ext3 to XFS or
another mature file system (JFS) because the annoying and absurdly long
time fsck takes.

Its very convenient to have a large sack to toss the stuff, but it has
its own set of drawbacks :)

Yes, and I'm against partitioning too much but considering the big sizes
of the actual hard disks it has become a must, also to minimize a
filesystem corruption in a partition that can affect the whole data.

Leaving a copy in the server is an option that always gives headaches.

It worked well in T'bird until T'bird (Icedove) choked. :-%

I'm a Thunderbird user (mostly for POP3 but also manage a bunch of IMAP

AFAICT, these servers do not support IMAP.

The decision is up to you.

I think installing the closed source driver first (from the backports non-

does not work you can uninstall it afterwards.

I have no experience of building a kernel, and I would like to avoid it

Yes, and that's why my primary backup is directly attached to one of the
SATA ports of the motherboard: speed between SATA buses is good enough
when using a powerful system. The average size of my /home backup is now
at ~10 GiB and I always do full (not incremental nor differential)
backups becasue 10 GiB is still a manageable size (although for servers

Yes, but I'm very reluctant when it comes to optical media: it's painly

does not last forever despite what advertising says (moreover,

  security problem.

As Apache can be run in a multi-homed (virtual host) environmenet I can
be the admin of *my* site (my apache configuration) but not for the
others. I can fix my site but not the rest, meaning, there can be sites
exposing a vulnerable configuration while another sites in the same host
 don't.

You assume that there is just a user Apache configuration for each
virtual host. This is not the case. If a site decides to make script
contents available (as text), but then a global configuration (e.g.
the fact to install some Apache module) changes the behavior so that
the script, instead of being displayed as text, becomes executed when
the URL is opened, then it is not the site that exposes a vulnerable
configuration, but a global problem.

There is a better solution: to fix mod_php and mod_rivet.

What's the fix you propose? I mean, what's what you think is wrong in
these two packages? Fixing the sample scripts? Are these scripts poorly
  written and exposing flaws?

Your last questions make no sense.

Sorry, the DSA explains little about the origin of the error and how it
 can be exploited.

The sample scripts are *not* in these two packages, but under /usr
/share/doc! So, there is nothing to fix in the sample scripts
themselves. The fix should be in the two packages, which shouldn't
execute scripts stored in a random directory, i.e. the scripts in /usr
/share/doc should just be seen as text files. This should be a bit like
CGI's: they are executed only if the ExecCGI option has been set on the
  directory.

So you consider the flaw is where, exactly?

As I've said, in the mod_php and mod_rivet modules.

What do you think the packages are doing wrong? And most important,
have you contacted the Apache guys to share your concerns with them?

I know nothing about these modules (except that they will change the
Apache configuration), but this may also be due to Debian-related
settings.

Debian netboot not detecting Addonics flash adapters

2012-04-24 Thread Lars Noodén
I'm trying to install Debian Squeeze from the netboot image [1] over PXE
and having great difficulty getting it to detect the drives. The error
is that no drives are detected:

No disk drive was detected. If you know the name of
the driver needed by your disk drive, you can select
it from the list.

In contrast, the OpenBSD 5.0 installer has no trouble finding and using
the disks. In fact, if I have OpenBSD installed on the disks, then the
Debian finds the disks just fine. So to get Debian, I have to go
through the intermediate step of installing OpenBSD.

What should I do different to do get Debian to find the disks and install?

wheezy before 2.2.22-4, and sid before 2.2.22-4 (...), note the

TFT should be used in its native resolution. Doing so, you get the sharpest
screen.

I recommend to use 1440x900 resolution and adjust icon size, fonts etc to your

2012-04-24 Thread daniel jimenez
The extra vertical resolution could come in handy, although because of the
aspect ratio (its much more of a square than the one you've got now) some
of it wouldn't be useful when watching widescreen movies.

Think about the aspect ratio as one of the most important factors when
choosing a screen. I myself use a 16:10 13 screen at 1200x800 in my laptop
and a 5:4 17 1280x1024 as a second monitor on my desk.

I consider anything below 1600x1200 as utterly unusable.
Unfortunately, most monitors nowadays are built with the idea that
people use them only to watch movies. So the next best thing is
1920x1200; that should get you the best of both worlds. Samsung, e.g.,
has some *very* nice monitors at that resolution.

Multiply the two numbers together to get the total pixel count. 1440 x
900 is a standard 16:9 ratio that gives you 1,296,000 pixels.

1600x1200 is a pretty good 4:3 ratio that gives you 1,920,000 pixels.
That's about 50% more pixels.

However, it's getting harder to find 4x3 screens around. In North
America, the common size is 1920x1080, a standard HD size at 16:9. That
gives you 2,073,600 pixels - an insignificant increase over 1600x1200.

You may have some luck finding a 1920x1200 screen (16:10) which gives
you 2,304,000 pixels. That's almost double the count of your 1440x900
screen. However, these ones are rare.

For any TV viewing, the programming is all going to 16:9 so if you want
to watch current programming, go with a widescreen monitor. The 16:9
ones work well but 16:10 can allow you to have onscreen controls, etc.
below the program. Since 16:9 are more common and generally cheaper...

You can watch widescreen programs on a 4:3 monitor, just like you can on
a TV. However, you won't be using the full screen size.

There's little point in getting any monitor that doesn't do at least
1920x1080 these days. If you are on a very tight budget, getting a used
monitor may be the answer.

encrypting an external HDD filesystem and GNOME3 support

2012-04-24 Thread Jon Dowland
Hi,

I am interested in creating an encrypted partition (ideally
LVM logical volume) on an external disk, which I will want
to attach and detach from my laptop whilst running. I use
the GNOME3 environment and am looking for a robust solution
which doesn't require too much fuss.

It would appear that GNOME3/nautilus/udisks (or some
combination thereof) has some rudimentary support for
detecting and mounting LVM volume groups, logical
volumes and dm_crypt devices. However the dm_crypt+LVM
combination doesn't work well yet, at all (what happens
is described below)

My question is, does anyone currently achieve a
hot-pluggable, encrypted filesystem, accessible with the
minimum of fuss via a modern GUI environment, and if so,
what do they use?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

(details about how well LVM/dm_crypt and GNOME3 play
together follow)

If I plug a disk with an LVM-formatted partition, an icon
for the VG appears in nautilus. Clicking on that requires
user authentication, after which an icon appears for the
LVs within.

For a plain (non-encrypted) LV, double-clicking that
requires another user authentication, upon which the LV
is mounted.

For an encrypted LV, double-clicking it prompts for a
decryption passphrase, then follows up with an
authentication prompt (as above).

I then get an error message (Internal error: No mount
object for mounted volume) and a pop-up telling me that
a filesystem has appeared simultaneously. The filesystem
appears to be mounted. However, when you unmount the volume
in nautilus, the dm_crypt device is not properly closed.

It would appear that LVM/dm_crypt are not adequately
supported in the desktop stack yet, but that they probably
will be soon. The two auth prompts in the non-encrypted
case may be possible to configure away via policykit.

ii gnome-shell3.2.2.1-2
ii nautilus 3.2.1-3
ii udisks 1.0.4-5
ii lvm2 2.02.88-2
ii cryptsetup 2:1.4.1-2

USB harddisk problem

2012-04-24 Thread Josep Llauradó
Hello,

I have a serious problem with external usb hard drives and a new
debian squeeze on a laptop.

The symptoms are

What it works:
- When I mount a previously an usb hard drive formatted using another
computer (linux or windows) the first time it mounts well, either by
command line as root or using user-space mounting under gnome, but
when I dismount it and mout again the partiition is unusable
- When I partition an usb hard drive I get all the disc corrupted
despite gparted or fdisk works well without error. If I try to mount
again on another computer it says that there is not partition table.
- When I try to format a partition already created on another computer
on command line it says nothing (the usual stuff with no errors) but
it doesn't work. If I do it using Disk Utility (graphical tool) I get
an error at the end saying the following:

What it works:

- The funny thing: I have reinstalled twice the computer, each time
the same. If I make the same using the netboot debian cd install,
under installation I can format, mount and use the disk on this
computer without problem
- If using vmware player I use any usb hard drive using linux or
windows as guest operating systems without problems
- If I use flash usb drives I can do everything without problem
(partiiton, format, ...)
- I have tried 3 hard drives of 2 different vendors, and on other
computers all of then work

The dmesg output of an usb flash is the following:

I need to get two monitors running on two separate video cards on a
Squeeze system. Do I need to customize my xorg.conf, or is there a
simple gui tool to do this nowadays?

Thanks

Re: encrypting an external HDD filesystem and GNOME3 support

2012-04-24 Thread Josep Llauradó
HI Jon,

I've been using truecrypt (available for windows, mac and linux) for a
while without problems. It works as a file inside a partiiton on any
available system (lvm or not) and can be installed even using fat or
other basic filesystems.

The solutions uses a graphical interface, and can be scripted if you
are a more adventurous guy.

It appears as a disk in nautilus too.

You have other solutions, like block encription using the kernel, but
I've not been using that for a few years, so I prefer to let other
users more experienced or with fresh memory explain this other
solution.

Best regards.

 Hi,

I am interested in creating an encrypted partition (ideally
LVM logical volume) on an external disk, which I will want
to attach and detach from my laptop whilst running.  I use
the GNOME3 environment and am looking for a robust solution
which doesn't require too much fuss.

It would appear that GNOME3/nautilus/udisks (or some
combination thereof) has some rudimentary support for
detecting and mounting LVM volume groups, logical
volumes and dm_crypt devices. However the dm_crypt+LVM
combination doesn't work well yet, at all (what happens
 is described below)

My question is, does anyone currently achieve a
hot-pluggable, encrypted filesystem, accessible with the
minimum of fuss via a modern GUI environment, and if so,
 what do they use?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

(details about how well LVM/dm_crypt and GNOME3 play
 together follow)

If I plug a disk with an LVM-formatted partition, an icon
for the VG appears in nautilus. Clicking on that requires
user authentication, after which an icon appears for the
 LVs within.

 For a plain (non-encrypted) LV, double-clicking that
requires another user authentication, upon which the LV
 is mounted.

For an encrypted LV, double-clicking it prompts for a
decryption passphrase, then follows up with an
 authentication prompt (as above).

I then get an error message (Internal error: No mount
object for mounted volume) and a pop-up telling me that
a filesystem has appeared simultaneously.  The filesystem
appears to be mounted.  However, when you unmount the volume
in nautilus, the dm_crypt device is not properly closed.

It would appear that LVM/dm_crypt are not adequately
supported in the desktop stack yet, but that they probably
will be soon.  The two auth prompts in the non-encrypted
case may be possible to configure away via policykit.

 ii  gnome-shell    3.2.2.1-2
 ii  nautilus       3.2.1-3
 ii  udisks         1.0.4-5

 ii  cryptsetup     2:1.4.1-2

Wow, I got it working already. All I did was:

/etc/init.d/gdm3 stop
X -configure
cp /root/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf
/etc/init.d/gdm3 start

Actually, I did have to make a correction to xorg.conf. The radeonhd
driver did not work, so I switched it to radeon and that fixed it. I
also had to change the order of my screens (right to left), but that's
to be expected.

For the record, my system has an onboard NVidia GeForce 6100 and a PCI
Express ATI Radeon HD 3470. The ATI card has dual DisplayPort outputs,
but my second monitor only has VGA inputs so I opted to use the onboard
VGA instead of buying an adapter.

The 2TB HDD is not mentioned as an Advanced Format drive. I gather that
it will probably have a VFAT file system on it which I should be able to
remove by repartitioning the drive. Thank you for your comment. I don't
use Windows in any shape or form, so Windows access is not for me.

Recently, I have been wondering if it would be better for me to
have 1600x1200 screen. Would this be better for Linux software?
What about HD TV? And movies?

  Any comments welcome

Multiply the two numbers together to get the total pixel count. 1440
 x 900 is a standard 16:9 ratio that gives you 1,296,000 pixels.

1600x1200 is a pretty good 4:3 ratio that gives you 1,920,000 pixels.
 That's about 50% more pixels.

However, it's getting harder to find 4x3 screens around. In North
America, the common size is 1920x1080, a standard HD size at 16:9.
That gives you 2,073,600 pixels - an insignificant increase over
 1600x1200.

You may have some luck finding a 1920x1200 screen (16:10) which gives
you 2,304,000 pixels. That's almost double the count of your 1440x900
screen. However, these ones are rare.

For any TV viewing, the programming is all going to 16:9 so if you
want to watch current programming, go with a widescreen monitor. The
16:9 ones work well but 16:10 can allow you to have onscreen
controls, etc. below the program. Since 16:9 are more common and
 generally cheaper...

You can watch widescreen programs on a 4:3 monitor, just like you can
on a TV. However, you won't be using the full screen size.

There's little point in getting any monitor that doesn't do at least
1920x1080 these days. If you are on a very tight budget, getting a
used monitor may be the answer.

..if you can afford the desk space, get a _big_ CTR, I usually
run mine at 2048x1536x32@58 to 60Hz, power grid here is 50Hz.

How do I create clickable icon to dial into my ISP as a 'normal' user?

I can't tell for gnome-ppp but this can be usually done in wvdial by
definining different ISPs profiles [sections] and then passing it as
argument when calling the binary, e.g., wvdial my_first_isp.

Anyway, if you get no satisfaction with gnome-ppp, try another dialer ;-)
(I, for myself, prefer to use the plain wvdial).

I disagree with that philosophy. I may not end up using
gnome-ppp. But ignoring a problem does not solve it. There
*IS* a bug. It may be in the _operator_ ;/

After those questions are answered, how do I download and install
SeaMonkey such that clicking an ICON will dial into my ISP and launch
SeaMonkey -ICEweasel is FROZEN out as acceptable method.

Mmm... whaaat?!

changing window managers in debian 6.0.4

2012-04-24 Thread Dan Hitt
I'm running debian 6.0.4 (squeeze).

I'm attempting to change my window manager from the default metacity
to wmaker (WindowMaker).

I attempted the change by
   sudo update-alternatives --display x-window-manager
and then choosing the wmaker alternative.

When i run
   update-alternatives --display x-window-manager
i believe it indicates that wmaker is my window manager.

The exact output is:

   x-window-manager - manual mode
 link currently points to /usr/bin/wmaker
   /usr/bin/metacity - priority 60
 slave x-window-manager.1.gz: /usr/share/man/man1/metacity.1.gz
   /usr/bin/twm - priority 40
 slave x-window-manager.1.gz: /usr/share/man/man1/twm.1.gz
   /usr/bin/wmaker - priority 50
 slave x-window-manager.1.gz: /usr/share/man/man1/wmaker.1x.gz
   Current 'best' version is '/usr/bin/metacity'.

But the display looks absolutely unchanged (even after logging out and back
in, and even after rebooting).

So i presume that this means i need to change some other display components?

Or do some other steps besides just running the update-alternatives program?

Thanks in advance for any clues or links to FAQs or any other documentation
i should consult.

I think gnome uses its own configuration system rather than debian's.
I think it goes something like this:

Open gconf-editor (install it if it is not already installed). Find the
correct place to edit (I do not have a gnome2 installation here). It may
be desktop/gnome/session/required_components/windowmanager, as
suggested by the internet.

You could search for required_components and I think you should find
the right place.

You should see that windowmanager is set to metacity. Change it to
whatever you like (wmaker, I guess).

At least that procedure worked for me when I switched form metacity to
compiz. There is also the command line way. As I have never used it I
will not propose it, but the internet hints at gconftool-2 -s
/desktop/gnome/session/required_components/windowmanager xmonad --type
string as the command line way of setting the windowmanager to xmonad.
