Ok... I'm trying to scan myself and build a nice little security tool. A quick look through the changelog for the versions between slink and potato didn't show and y2k fixes but I did find the following: alien (6.26) unstable; urgency=low * If 822-date fails, the error now suggests installing dpkg-dev.
