Does it? It looks like pandas is failing pretty often "randomly" on i386. In that case[*] it'd be worth investigating. The main reason being that updates/patches need to be possible without a lot of give-backs.

Does the test generate random inputs? Can you reproduce these random build failures locally by running the build for i386 a couple of times? (At least this isn't some fringe architecture.)
