Hi,

I would like to help out or adopt this project with the original
maintainer's blessing. I use ublock origin all the time. I'm fairly new,
so I will probably have quite a few questions. If Sean doesn't want to
give up the project to me because he doesn't have any time to answer
questions or because he believes this project is too difficult for a
newcomer, I'm okay with that as well.

Thanks,
Scott

Awh, crap - that's a good point. Yes, we'll have to rename "todo" to
"todoman" if there's something existing that provides /usr/bin/todo.

Thanks for your fast reviewing!

I was just wondering, /usr/bin/todo seems quite generic, and it may clash with
other packages... It seems to be used by "devtodo". Should we customize the
patch the package to provide /usr/bin/todoman instead, or keep /usr/bin/todo
and avoid conflicts by another mean?

Severity: wishlist

Package name: simavr
Version : git
Upstream Author : Michel Pollet
URL : http://gitorious.org/simavr
License : GPL 3
Programming Lang: C
Description : a simple, lean and mean AVR simulator

Description from the web page:

simavr is a new AVR simulator for linux, or any platform that
uses avr-gcc. It uses avr-gcc own register definition to
simplify creating new targets for supported AVR devices.

The core was made to be small and compact, and hackable so
allow quick prototyping of an AVR project. The AVR core works
more or less perfectly now.

The simulator loads ELF files directly, and there is even a
way to specify simulation parameters directly in the emulated
code using an .elf section.

  Programming Lang: C, Python
  Description : Simple SEG-Y library

segyio is a fairly simple library for reading and writing SEG-Y files
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SEG_Y which extensively used geo
sciences.

The library is developed mostly according to our needs, but we'd love to
build a community around embeddable, high quality libraries for geo
sciences. We plan to extend language support beyond python in the
future, once we have a use case for it.

We have received some interest from various parties, and we already
distribute both source code and binaries through pypi
https://pypi.python.org/pypi/SegyIO

The libraries are used daily by our scientists and developers.

There are plenty of products that support reading and writing SEG-Y
files, but most are bundled inside huge properietary applications, and
few are fast and usable as libraries.

What's needed is a debian entry, some packaging aid (we'd like to split
the package into its core and its language extensions for Debian
distribution), but we plan to maintain the source code ourselves in
perpetuity. We're of course happy to take patches and to accomodate the
need of distributions.

  Description : utility to extract a name from a PPI Document

PPIx::DocumentName contains a few utilities for extracting a "name" out of an
arbitrary Perl file.

Typically, this is the module name, in the form:

 package Foo

However, it also supports extraction of an override statement in the form:

 # PODNAME: OverrideName::Goes::Here

which may be more applicable for documents that lack a package statement, or
the package statement may be "wrong", but they still need the document parsed
under the guise of having a name (for purposes such as POD).

The package will be maintained under the umbrella of the Debian Perl Group.

  Description : Minimal audio player for manual speech transcription

Plays audio sources to transcribe them in your favourite text application.
Speed of playback can be changed without changing the pitch and on pause it
will rewind for a few seconds according to your preferences. Parlatype can be
controlled with the "Play" button from your keyboard even if its window is not
focused.

Parlatype fills a gap for an easy to use transcription utility (manual
transcription). I'm not aware of another program in Debian for GNOME,
targeting transcriptions and also offering a waveform. It's written for
GNOME but should work on other desktop environments as well.

Parlatype doesn't have its own editor, it recommends LibreOffice and has a
set of macros (Python scripts) for LibreOffice.

Parlatype has its own library with dev headers, docs and gobject
introspection. Although that library is intended for public use, probably
there are no other consumers except Parlatype itself.

I would maintain it myself, I'm also the upstream author. I'm looking for
a sponsor (actually I reported the sponsorship request first).

* Package Name: vo-aladin
* Version:  9.013
* Upstream Author: Pierre Fernique, Strasbourg astronomical Data Center
(CDS)
* URL:  http://aladin.u-strasbg.fr/
* Programming Language: Java
* License:  GPL-3
* Description: Interactive sky atlas for astronomical images and
datasets

Aladin is an desktop client for viewing and analysis of Virtual
Observatory (VO) astronomical datasets in real-time. Data, tables and
images are dynamically fetched and displayed to the user, via the
network of registries and and data centres offering access using VO
protocols.
.
Aladin is written in Java, released under the GPLv3 and
maintined by the Strasbourg astronomical Data Center (CDS).
.
http://aladin.u-strasbg.fr/

The main code base is written in Java and published under the GPLv3 as
Src.jar files, at:

  http://aladin.u-strasbg.fr/java/nph-aladin.pl?frame=downloading

These 'jarballs' are unversioned; a tool to download and renumber the
upstream sources jarballs is available at:

  https://github.com/sladen/vo/blob/master/aladin-meta/fetch-aladin-source.py

Several internal dependencies are used, (included by default as binary
.class object in the source distribution: 'microhub' + dependencies,
'kxml2', 'jsamp', 'moc', 'cds-astro', 'savot'.

These dependences need separately packaging and uploading first, and
are listed in more detail at:

  https://github.com/sladen/vo/blob/master/aladin-meta/dependencies.md

The current application-to-application data sharing protocol is SAMP,
meaning that it should be possible to safely disable the the
'microhub') dependency. The Plastic Manager (supplied by Microhub)
and its further dependencies appear to be frequently disabled in the
main code anyway, and can likely be fully commented out the via the
'USE_PLASTIC_REQUESTED=false' code-paths.

'libkxml2-java' is already packaged in Debian as:

  https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=libkxml2-java

'jsamp' is available in 'debian-astro' revision control, based on
previous work by Florian Rothmaier:

  http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/debian-astro/packages/jsamp.git/

'MOC' presently has an unknown licence:

  http://wiki.ivoa.net/twiki/bin/view/IVOA/MocInfo

Both the 'CDS-Astro' and 'SAVOT3' libraries have a non-free
educational-use-only licence, requiring explicit permission for
anything else. The Present restrictive CDS licence text is in:

  http://cds.u-strasbg.fr/resources/doku.php?id=using_conditions
  "reproduction and representation as a private copy or for
  educational and research purposes" /
  "la reproduction et la representation a titre de copie privee ou des
  fins d'enseignement et de recherche"

Which is linked from the download pages at:

  http://cds.u-strasbg.fr/resources/doku.php?id=3Dunits
  "Read before any use of available Java classes"

  http://cds.u-strasbg.fr/resources/doku.php?id=3Dsavot_v3.0=20
  "Read before any use of available Java classes"

Although SAVOT3 appears under the educational-only (non-free) licence,
there is a SAVOT4 GPL3 implementation from Andre Schaaff (CDS) to be
found on Github. If this is API-compatible, it should be possible to
package and switch to this:

  https://github.com/aschaaff/savot/

Communication is underway in order to try to get moc, cds-astro and,
if needed SAVOT3, clearly under the GPL-3 licence aswell as this is
required prior to inclusion in Debian.

* Package name: keepassxc
  Version : 2.1.1
  Upstream Author : KeePassXC
* URL : https://keepassxc.org
* License : GPLv2, GPLv3
  Programming Lang: C++
  Description : Community fork of KeePassX, a free and open-source
cross-platform password manager.

KeePassXC aims to incorporate many pull requests as well as additional
newly developed features that have never been merged into KeePassX.
Besides many bug fixes and other minor changes, the current version
(2.1.1) already contains the following additional features:

- Autotype on all three major platforms (Linux, Windows, OS X)
- Stand-alone password generator
- Password strength meter
- Use website's favicons as entry icons
- Merging of databases
- Automatic reload when the database changed on disk
- KeePassHTTP support for use with PassIFox in Firefox and chromeIPass
in Google Chrome and Chromium

More features will come in 2.2.0. (e.g. Yubikey support, Twofish cipher
support, a welcome screen redesign, general user interface improvements
etc.)

At the time of the fork, KeePassXC built upon the latest but never
released KeePassX source tree, which included the switch to Qt5.

I'm writing you as one of the main developers of KeePassXC. We would
like to get KeePassXC into the official Debian repositories and from
there into other derivatives such as Ubuntu. We would be willing to
package KeePassXC ourselves, but since none of us developers is an
active Debian user, we would like to ask first if someone else would be
willing to package it for us. In the interest of package quality, this
would likely be best. Packaging KeePassXC is (and for the foreseeable
future will be) quite similar to packaging KeePassX, so maybe the
original KeePassX maintainer could handle this if he's willing to? He's
on X-Debbugs-Cc.

Thanks and regards
Janek

It will be used for the Thunderbolt plugin that is part of fwupd.

Bug#882300: ITP: neomutt -- A command line mail reader (or MUA). It's a version of Mutt with added features.

2017-11-21 Thread Antonio Radici

  Description : NeoMutt is a command line mail reader (or MUA). It's a
version of Mutt with added features.

To give more context, have a look at b/870635; neomutt was packaged as 'mutt' in
stretch but the current mutt maintainer has raised issue of the tarball being
used: since the codebase of neomutt diverged (initially due to code formatting
changes, then due to some API changes and code split), which made patching mutt
with a single huge neomutt patch impractical (the patch was larger than the
source code).

We have restored original mutt source code at version 1.9.1-1 and given that
this was just done, I plan to spin up a new neomutt package starting from the
same version (with the latest version of neomutt); the plan is to fork the
pkg-mutt git repository from the latest tag and start from there, packaging the
new neomutt version.

  Description : simple .INI file parser

inih (INI Not Invented Here) is a simple .INI file parser written in C.
It's only a couple of pages of code, and it was designed to be small and
simple, so it's good for embedded systems. It's also more or less
compatible with Python's ConfigParser style of .INI files, including
RFC 822-style multi-line syntax and name: value entries.

It is used by the Goxel 3D voxel editor.

  Version : 0.116
  Upstream Author : Sawyer X
* URL : https://metacpan.org/release/Ref-Util-XS
* License : Expat
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : XS implementation for Ref::Util

Ref::Util::XS is the XS implementation of Ref::Util, which provides several
functions to help identify references in a more convenient way than the usual
approach of examining the return value of ref.

You should use Ref::Util::XS by installing Ref::Util itself (packaged as
libref-util-perl): If the system doesn't have Recommends turned off, you will
get libref-util-xs-perl automatically. Ref::Util::XS will be used
automatically, providing a significant speed boost to everything that uses
Ref::Util.

See Ref::Util for full documentation of the available functions.

The package will be maintained under the umbrella of the Debian Perl Group.

Bug#882301: ITP: r-cran-ddalpha -- GNU R depth-based classification and calculation of data depth

2017-11-21 Thread Andreas Tille
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Andreas Tille

* Package name: r-cran-ddalpha
  Version : 1.3.1
  Upstream Author : Oleksii Pokotylo
* URL : https://cran.r-project.org/package=ddalpha
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: GNU R
  Description : GNU R depth-based classification and calculation of data
depth
 Contains procedures for depth-based supervised learning, which are
 entirely non-parametric, in particular the DDalpha-procedure (Lange,
 Mosler and Mozharovskyi, 2014). The training data sample is transformed
 by a statistical depth function to a compact low-dimensional space,
 where the final classification is done. It also offers an extension to
 functional data and routines for calculating certain notions of
 statistical depth functions. 50 multivariate and 5 functional
 classification problems are included.

Remark: This package belongs to a pyramid of dependencies to upgrade
r-cran-caret to its latest upstream version. It will be maintained by
the Debian Science team at
https://anonscm.debian.org/git/debian-science/packages/r-cran-ddalpha.git
Any takers for other new dependencies of r-cran-caret would be
really appreciated. Also other Uploaders who volunteer to keep on
maintaining the packages are really welcome.

Package name: elpa-rich-minority
Version : 1.0.1
Upstream Author : Artur Malabarba
URL : https://github.com/Malabarba/rich-minority
License : GPL2+
Programming Lang: Lisp
Description : Clean-up and beautify the list of minor-modes in Emacs'
mode-line
 Rich-minority-mode is used for hiding and/or highlighting the list of
 minor-modes in the mode-line.
 .
 By default, it has a couple of small effects (provided as examples).
 These can be customised by modifying the following three variables:
 .
 rm-blacklist: List of minor mode names that will be hidden from the
 minor-modes list. Use this to hide only a few modes that are always
 active and don’t really contribute information.
 .
 rm-whitelist: List of minor mode names that are allowed on the
 minor-modes list. Use this to hide all but a few modes.
 .
 rm-text-properties: List text properties to apply to each minor-mode
 lighter. For instance, by default Ovwrt is highlighted with a red
 face, so you always know if you’re in overwrite-mode.

I'm not a fan of the upstream name "rich-minority", but this package
is a dependency for elpa-smart-mode-line. The name seems to be a pun
on rich text (eg: coloured) support for the mode line. I would
maintain it as part of the pkg-emacsen team and will require a sponsor.

Sincerely,
Nicholas

* Package name: qutebrowser
  Version : 0.7.0
  Upstream Author : Florian Bruhin (The Compiler)
* URL : https://qutebrowser.org/
* License : GPL3
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : A keyboard-driven, vim-like browser based on PyQt5.

qutebrowser is a keyboard-focused browser with a minimal GUI. It’s based on
Python, PyQt5 QtWebKit and QtWebEngine and free software, licensed under the
GPL.
It was inspired by other browsers/addons like dwb and Vimperator/Pentadactyl.
But unlike dwb and other vim-like Browsers it does not rely on webkitgtk as the
backend but on the newer QtWebKit and QtWebEngine (Chromium engine).

I already did the packaging. The files can be found in my github repository:
https://github.com/V155/qutebrowser/tree/debian-0.7.0
I also intend to package the dependency python3-pypeg2 do I have to write a
seperate
ITP for it?

Kind regards
Fritz Reichwald

Gerbera is a UPnP media server, originally based on MediaTomb, which

consume it on a variety of UPnP compatible devices.

This package is intended to replace MediaTomb which has been abandoned
upstream. I intend to package this as part of the Debian Multimedia Team.

  Description : Small C++ library to interface with the FreeSRP

The FreeSRP is an open source platform for software defined radio. The
hardware is based around the Analog Devices AD9364 transceiver covering
70 MHz - 6 Ghz with a bandwidth of up to 56 MHz, an Xilinx Artix 7 FPGA
and a USB 3.0 connection to stream data to a computer in real time.

libfreesrp is a small C++ library that uses libusb to program and
configure the FreeSRP hardware and both receive and transmit RF signals.

Recent upstream gr-osmosdr includes support for FreeSRP using this
library, making FreeSRP hardware useable with gnuradio and gqrx
applications.

  Description : A general purpose syntax highlighter in pure Go

 Chroma takes source code and other structured text and converts it into
 syntax highlighted HTML, ANSI-coloured text, etc.
 .
 Chroma is based heavily on Pygments (http://pygments.org/), and includes
 translators for Pygments lexers and styles.

Reasoning: Required by Hugo 0.28, which "brings blistering fast and native
 syntax highlighting. A big thank-you to Alec Thomas for taking on this
 massive task of porting the popular python highlighter Pygments to Go."

Just go to this page and make a search with terms “Roboto” (without
quotes) and you will see that now also Roboto Slab and Roboto Mono are
available. If you check out Roboto, you can see, it is also available
in Ultra Bold style.

I wonder, where are thse source code of all those fonts. Google have
at least these Git repositories:

  Description : Utilities for building and maintaining noto fonts

This is the utility for Noto contributors to build and maintain Noto
fonts, and is required if we need to build fonts-noto-color-emoji from
source.

After priminary build of Noto Color Emoji I found that due to the old
version of fonttools it requires patching and disabling Python 3 support
to make it work. As this utility is for building font from source, the
"maintaining" function of this package becomes not so important.

This package should be best maintained by Debian Fonts Task Force.

  Description : Measure socket and RDMA performance

qperf measures bandwidth and latency between two nodes. It can work
over TCP/IP as well as the RDMA transports.

- qperf is a widely-used tool for testing performance of RDMA
  stacks and fabrics.
- While there is some overlap with iperf3 in the area of TCP
  performanced testing, iperf3 cannot directly test an RDMA
  trasport. qperf allows direct testing of UD and RC RDMA.
- qperf will be maintained as part of my employer's ongoing
  project of supporting RDMA functionality on Debian.
- I do not yet have Debian maintainer status, and will
  require a sponsor.
- qperf will be included in the software packages maintained by
  pkg-ofed.
- I use qperf on a regular basis to test functionality and
  performance of RDMA fabrics with the amd64 architecture.
