Did the bootsplash in Debian push die a gruesome and horrible death?

I'm no longer able to test this module (I've been without a Vaio laptop
for some months now). The packaging is mostly simple for a kernel
module. I am not sure if it works on 2.6 or not, but it worked as late
as 2.4.20 for me. Upstream is not dead, but
