Bug#664829: ITP: libperlbal-xs-httpheaders-perl -- Perlbal extension for processing HTTP headers faster
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Jonathan Steinert d...@hachi.kuiki.net * Package name: libperlbal-xs-httpheaders-perl Version : 0.20 Upstream Author : Mark Smith jun...@danga.com * URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/Perlbal-XS-HTTPHeaders/ * License : (Artistic, GPL1+) Programming Lang: (Perl, C++) Description : Perlbal extension for processing HTTP headers faster Perlbal::XS::HTTPHeaders is used to read HTTP headers from a string and to parse them into an internal storage format for easy access and modification. You can also ask the module to reconstitute the headers into one big string, useful if you're writing a proxy and need to read and write headers while maintaining the ability to modify individual parts of the whole. The goal is to be fast. This is a lot faster than doing all of the text processing in Perl directly, and a lot of the flexibility of Perl is maintained by implementing the library in Perl and descending from Perlbal::HTTPHeaders. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#614517: Packaging of libgit2
On Tue, 2012-03-20 at 23:01 +1100, Russell Sim wrote: Hi, I have been watching this bug for a while with interest. I have tried and failed to find copies of the package referred to in a previous email. Since then I have been maintaining my own version of libgit2 for a library I develop. Recently I have had the time to enhance the packages I have been using to make them more applicable to the Debian project. I have uploaded them to mentors.debian.net [1]. So at this point I am interested contributing to the packaging of this library in what ever way I can, I am happy to try and find a mentor if necessary unless someone on this list is interested?. Thanks for taking the time to do this. One reason I haven't advanced too much on this (other than a version I have locally) is the issue of the clay script, which I wasn't too sure was DFSG compatible (though re-reading the rules, it looks like I was mixing them with the GPL's requirement that software be in its preferred editable form), though I guess the FTP admin team would have the last say. Another reason is that I don't know how much sense it makes to package the released version, as we've made a lot of bugfixes and added features since then, and during the pre-1.0 stage, there won't be any bugfix releases, so it might make more sense to create snapshot packages. A thing I do take issue with is the short description, which claims libgit2 implements the Git DVCS, but that's not what it does. It's an implementation of the core git functions and it doesn't try to replicate everything git does, but provide the functionality so you can write your own tools on top of it. Bug#646607: ITP: atheme-services -- modular IRC services daemon
On Tue, 20 Mar 2012 18:17:25 -0500, Mike Mestnik che...@mikemestnik.net wrote: Too much drama. Some users are familiar with Atheme's stance on packaging, so you'll be asked to not package Atheme by just about anybody. After so much time has passed it would be important to re-affirm permission and also determine who has the right to suggest to Debian that they would prefer there to not be a package and who has the right to grant permission. It would be important for any mentor to understand the landscape. We may have to disclaim that there is no support whatsoever from upstream of this package or at least inform users that a handful of Atheme users will angrily reject any requests pertaining to the Debian package. As far as Atheme's stance on this issue I have no idea, I can't even say with any certainty who Atheme is aside from the copyright Upstream Authors. Could any one of there objections prevent inclusion into Debian? It also should be noted that I have a mental illness, as I'm sure many can relate, in working with ppl. I really only understand the actions of computers and this causes humans to hate me, in my opinion unjustifiably. I appreciate you being straightforward about this. I have communicated with upstream and I think I have cleared those issues. I have talked specifically with William Pitcock which gave us a go on IRC and they have formally changed their website to reflect that, as I mentionned in this bug report earlier. If you are unconfortable to deal with upstream, please let me deal with them. I can operate humans maybe a little bit better, and I will not hate you for having trouble operating me. ;) I also have a good relation with upstream so far. In other words, I can mentor this package, given time. Bug#663754: ITP: hol-light -- HOL Light theorem prover
Stéphane Glondu writes: I: hol-light: arch-dep-package-has-big-usr-share 17934kB 100% It's not an error, it's an info :-) Please override it with a useful comment, and don't split the package. Done. It should be possible to compile stuff so that your: #use hol.ml;; could be replaced by a much faster: #load hol.cma;; Besides, the package would also be of better quality, because it would not be available if the compilation of hol.ml failed. I already thought about this, but 1. I believe upstream deliberately decided to not compile hol.ml. The Debian package should follow this. Note that upstream advises users to type ``#use hol.ml;;'' into ocaml in order to use HOL Light. 2. With compiling hol.ml you would gain very little, because (I believe) most of its material are theorems and proofs. That is, most of hol.ml are constants, which are rather computation intensive. So even if you compile it, loading would take about 2 minutes, and, if one of the proofs is wrong, loading would fail, although the compilation succeeded. (HOL Light is different from Coq, there is no hol-lightc!) To ensure quality I want to run the test suite (file holtest). But running this takes several hours. Some of those tests require external tools (eg prover9, zchaff). I first have to find out which of those test should work on a Debian installation. Bug#614517: Packaging of libgit2
Carlos Martín Nieto car...@cmartin.tk writes: Thanks for taking the time to do this. Yes I can see how having the generated Clay/Clar executable is less that desirable if you wanted to extend Clar. But the source is included, as a compressed string in the clar executable so it's not really obfuscated, just hidden away. Another reason is that I don't know how much sense it makes to package the released version, as we've made a lot of bugfixes and added features since then, and during the pre-1.0 stage, there won't be any bugfix releases, so it might make more sense to create snapshot packages. Yes I think that snapshot releases are probably a better way, since the symbols are changing anyway it's probably better to imply it's an unstable API. Since the testing is improving in the library it should also be easier to determine a working version. I can look at enhancing my packaging to cover the execution of the clar tests and the write a script to automate updating from the master? A thing I do take issue with is the short description, which claims libgit2 implements the Git DVCS, but that's not what it does. It's an implementation of the core git functions and it doesn't try to replicate everything git does, but provide the functionality so you can write your own tools on top of it. How about, library to access and manipulate Git repositories or perhaps back to the origional Git core methods library? I don't really like the git core methods library one because it kinda implies that git is currently using it. They allow to use an ALSA device as a Jack client, to provide additional capture (a2j) or playback (j2a) channels. . Functionally these are equivalent to the alsa_in and alsa_out clients that come with Jack, but they provide much better audio quality. The resampling ratio will typically be stable within 1 PPM and change only very smoothly. Delay will be stable as well even under worse case conditions, e.g. the Jack client running near the end of the cycle. ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: zita-ajbridge Source-Version: 0.1.0-1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of zita-ajbridge, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: zita-ajbridge_0.1.0-1.debian.tar.gz to main/z/zita-ajbridge/zita-ajbridge_0.1.0-1.debian.tar.gz zita-ajbridge_0.1.0-1.dsc to main/z/zita-ajbridge/zita-ajbridge_0.1.0-1.dsc zita-ajbridge_0.1.0-1_amd64.deb to main/z/zita-ajbridge/zita-ajbridge_0.1.0-1_amd64.deb zita-ajbridge_0.1.0.orig.tar.bz2 to main/z/zita-ajbridge/zita-ajbridge_0.1.0.orig.tar.bz2 A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. Bug#646607: ITP: atheme-services -- modular IRC services daemon
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 On 03/21/12 11:11, Antoine Beaupré wrote: On Tue, 20 Mar 2012 18:17:25 -0500, Mike Mestnik che...@mikemestnik.net wrote: Too much drama. Great! 6.0.10 is the latest and per upstream request the watch file will not try and pull anything other then 6.x. http://mikemestnik.net/debian/atheme-services/ I've went over my pkg and had only one hold back from uploading it to mentors and that's the debian/copyright file. I've made a lot of changes and I believe it's in good shape but I feel it will need two things, both are two ways of saying the same thing thankfully. It should need to be forward ported from the pkg-irc version 2.2.0+hg20071209-1 and that's assuming it was correct at that time. I have merged this tree with Lenny atheme-services_3.0.4-1.diff, so we should be good up-to that point. The second task is to make sure that every file in the completed source tree is included in the copyright as the current copyright file lists the status of each file individually. http://mikemestnik.net/debian/atheme-services/debian/copyright There is always something else I'll remember. The build log spits out a message about unnecessarily linking with libssl. I'm sure that's true of most of the binaries, but there must be one that makes use of it. To that end we need to make sure we are following current practices in regards to libssl copyright. * Note the pkg screams and dies if the embedded copy of libmowgli is used. One interesting note is that it would be possible for a user to build a package like this with -d, if this were removed. I'd like to extend the pkg to support this, but in that case the correct control file contains conflicts libmowgli. Regardless auditing of the pkg is necessary as it's my vary first and I've taken liberties. It's possible it's vary far from being usable. If you are unconfortable to deal with upstream, please let me deal with them. I can operate humans maybe a little bit better, and I will not hate you for having trouble operating me. ;) I also have a good relation with upstream so far. There are a number of notes for upstream. 1. The libssl, I'm supposed to ask them to remove it. That is, for example, it's not necessary on most of the modules that currently link to it. 2. .hgtags in *libmowgli, they can remove these in the next tarball. From what I gather these are files created by a VCS. In other words, I can mentor this package, given time. I don't think anyone has taken a good look at the pkg yet, so you may want to wait for it to sit on mentors for a bit so that I can say with some certainty that it's good to go.
