Sorry to say. But AFAIK the debconf solution is currently far from being
 resolved:

The approach of Dantti was not accepted by debconf upstream and the
preferred one of upstream hasn't been yet written.
I didn't know that... I really liked Danttis solution, but upstream will
have had a good reason for rejecting his example.

Is this the reason why PackageKit is not present in Debian?

Bug#447584: GeoGebra in Debian

2010-02-10 Thread Matthias Klumpp
Hi!
The GeoGebra devs asked me to remove all copies of GeoGebra from GetDeb.net
and to close my attempts to package it for Ubuntu, cause they don't want
any GeoGebra package maintained by someone who is not a GG developer.
The GPL grants the right to ditribute GeoGebra and to repackage and mainain
it on Debian/Ubuntu, but I think upsteam will have a reason for this
decision.
If you package GeoGebra for Debian, you should consider asking upsteam
first. Good luck! (I would love to see GG in Debian/Ubuntu's repositories)
Upstream told me they will provide an own repository with GeoGebra deb
packages and drop the current installer - but this was some months ago and
I still see nothing like this.
Kind regards
   Matthias

 Hello,

From the log I assumed that it was almost ready, but you orphaned the

The package is almost ready. The reason why it took so long to create the
package was UDX' alpha-status and some non-DFSG-compliant artwork
(music/paintings) which had to be replaced. I'm in contact with upstream
about this.
The stuff which would have to be done is updating the current packaging
with the latest upstream version, reviewing all licenses for
DFSG-incompliant stuff and upload the package.
The main reason for me not to maintain the package (alone) is that I don't
have a microphone/headset anymore, and I don't use it a lot. So fixing bugs
would take long, if I do it alone. (And I've absolutely less time atm)
I'm currently thinking of packaging UDX for the Debian-Games team and
co-maintain it there, so a lot of other people can help with this package.
(If they're interested)
Do you want to take the package or co-maintain it? ;-)
Cheers

Okay, I'll do it :)

On the backend side I would recommend to stay with the Python based
apt backend by default. Kubuntu recently switched to aptcc but this is
also a little bit problematic. (I am biased here since I am the author
 of the apt backend :)

To add the debconf support to the apt backend are only a few lines of
 code.
What are the problems with the APTcc backend? (I use it here and only
noticed most tasks are a lot faster)

Bug#604391: Apper status for Debian?

2011-11-06 Thread Matthias Klumpp
Hi!
The Apper package is ready and I'm just waiting for a sponsor :)
The package source code can be found here:
http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-packagekit/apper.git
Some stuff could be done on this package (like splitting out a -data
package), but basically the package is ready. (And already tested on
Ubuntu)
The biggest problem with Apper in general is the bad shape of the APT
backend in PackageKit, it would need much more work. (and it lacks
some features, like multiarch support) I'm planning to work on the
aptcc backend as soon as I have time for it.
But Apper is the package manager with the best KDE integration :)
It would be great if you could sponsor Apper for me! (And I'll try to
improve aptcc for Wheezy)
Cheers,
   Matthias

P.S: I already filed an RFS and also asked on #debian-qt-kde for
sponsorship, but no luck so far :P

2011/11/6 Jimmy Kaplowitz ji...@debian.org:
 Hi Matthias,

As a Debian developer and KDE user who wants to convert his parents' laptop
away from Windows, I found your ITP while investigating the current state of
KDE package managers on Debian. You've already done packaging work for Apper
 in
(K)Ubuntu, and in fact it seems to have released in oneiric universe, which is
great. Thank you for doing this! However your Debian ITP was filed almost a
year ago and the last update to this bug in the Debian BTS was in August.

What are your plans for adapting your packaging to Debian? If you need a
sponsor for the first few uploads and until you're a DM, I'm happy to review
your work, and I'm sure that many other DDs would be too. You seem to already
be the maintainer of most PackageKit packages in Debian and applied for DM
status two months ago, so I imagine you are familiar enough with Debian Policy
and the like. If I do collaborate with you on this, I will make sure to
 involve
the Debian QT/KDE team so that we can pay attention to their policies and
 practices as well, where relevant.

If you have decided that you don't want to maintain Apper in Debian proper, I
can take over the ITP, but I'll defer to you first. It would be quite helpful
to have a working and reasonably bug-free package manager for KDE in Wheezy,
which is currently targeted for freeze in June 2012 and then for release as
 soon it is sufficiently high-quality.

Thanks again for your efforts thus far,

 - Jimmy Kaplowitz
 ji...@debian.org

(I'm Hydroxide on irc.debian.org - feel free to collaborate with me there, but
still please do respond to the bug with your plans.)

and updating software. It provides a Software Center for GNOME.

Please note that in order to make this work on Debian, we will need to
implement the DEP-11 DEX and do some other manual tuning, so getting
this packaged and working might take some time.

Bug#722316: ITP: gnome-software -- GNOME Software Tools

2014-05-01 Thread Matthias Klumpp
2014-05-02 2:19 GMT+02:00 Laurent Bigonville bi...@debian.org:
 Hello Matthias,

Are you still working on this ITP? I actually started working on a
gnome-software on my own before seeing this.
Yes, I am actively working on this :-)
We will need AppStream data in Debian before we can use it, though.
That's why this package is currently delayed, I have a GSoC student
working on an implementation of DEP-11 (the AppStream stuff for
Debian) right now, and I am working on a libappstream port of
GNOME-Software, enabling it to instantly work on Debian.
Alternatively, libappstream-glib can be extended to support DEP-11 -
we'll see which option is better, in future (there is some
behind-the-scenes disagreemend whether using Xapian as database is a
good idea, or if loading XML directly is better).

I think that this package should be put under the GNOME team umbrella
to help synchronizing with the rest of the GNOME stack, would this be
 OK for you?
Yes, that was my plan anyway, I wanted to bring this up later on the
GNOME-team list, when DEP-11 is implemented and if have something
GNOME-Software-ish to show.

Without DEP-11/AppStream data, GNOME-Software is not really usable,
and the app-install-data package is something planned to be killed in
Jessie - that's why I didn't upload my work yet.
Cheers,
   Matthias

Oh, and I almost forgot: I am planning to upload the PackageKit 0.9.x
stack to Debian as well, which is in a way a requirement og GS as
well, since GS has been optimized for that version of PK, and
especially for aptcc we landed loads of fixes in the backend.
So, depending on the state of the different implementations, it could
eventually go to experimental in a few weeks.

@Laurent: How far did you get with your packaging? Just-started or

I think my pkg is almost ready, it just miss the description (and
probably some runtime dependency against the appstream data pkg).

You can find my pkg at: http://people.debian.org/~bigon/gnome-software/
Our packages are different, because I obviously didn't use the
GNOME-team packaging guidelines ;-)
Does GS work for you? If so, where did you get the metadata from,
since GS doesn't use appstream-index data in Debian (yet), and with
the version you packaged it also isn't able yet to consume other
metadata sources (except plain .desktop files).

If it's ok I'll commit it to the GNOME team svn
Yes, but can you maybe add me as co-maintainer?

We should test this stuff in experimental, together with PK 0.9, as
soon as it becomes ready (I am working on the remaining dependencies,
but since this is also upstream work, it might take a little bit more
time)
Cheers,
   Matthias

P.S: Just curiousity: Does the GNOME-team policy allow maintaining
stuff in Git as well? Or is SVN mandatory?

Bug#722316: ITP: gnome-software -- GNOME Software Tools

2014-10-01 Thread Matthias Klumpp
2014-10-01 13:21 GMT+02:00 filorin filo...@gmx.com:
 Hi guys !

I recently sent a message to the gnome-packagers about Gnome Software's
 introduction in Debian.

 Here's the reply :

There's been work to package it, but not all the dependencies were in
Debian at the time. I don't know what the current status is, but you
could ask on the ITP: #722316.

So, what's new ? Gnome 3.14 is about to be included in testing before the
Freeze (5/11/2014). It should be good to also include Software because a
 software center becomes essential nowadays.
Yes, but the software-center is 100% useless without the required
metadata ;-) Just recently, appstream-glib, the second AppStream-lib
which GS uses, has gained DEP-11 support to theoretically run on
Debian systems.
The code my SoC student wrote to make AppStrem work on Debian is
unfortunately not ready, and probably won't be in-time for Jessie
(see[1]).
I am putting a lot of work into this, but the task is still far from
being complete ;-)
But since Jessie will receive GNOME 3.14, the GS issue becomes a bit
bigger now, since lots of essential system maintenance stuff (e.g.
(offline)updates, update-notifications, ...) has been merged into GS,
so we need it in Jessie.
There are some backup-plans in place to get at least some AppStream
metadata into Jessie, if the FTP-Masters allow it. However, for full
support, with good screenshots and stuff, we need the dak code ready,
and the necessary bits implemented in Apt.
I will post a longer update as soon as I am out of my semi-VAC.
Cheers,
Matthias

P.S: This bug is owned by me, but the package will be maintained by
the Debian GNOME team and me in the end (it belongs under the GNOME
umbrella) - all hard dependencies for GS should be in place in Debian,
so the GS package could be made available already, although with only
a small percentage of it's functionality.

That sounds like a good plan! For OSTree I wanted to upload it when it
is fully useful for its intended purpose in Debian, that is managing
the base system with it. I'm obviously not yet there.
I would have worked on xdg-app already, but it currently depends on
the obsolete libgsystem, which I didn't want to (re)introduce in
Debian, also I have a lot of work already - so thanks for working on
this matter!
I would like to help with it and co-maintain the package. Also talked
with Alexander Larsson a bit about xdg-app on Debian this FOSDEM.
Regarding packaging teams, I wonder whether it would make sense to
start a new team and move related software under that umbrella.
Specificallly, putting xdg-app, Limba, AppStream, appstream-glib and
ostree together might make sense - right now,I am maintaining most of
them in the pkg-packagekit Git repo.

Bug#818482: ITP: dub -- Package and build management system for D

2016-03-19 Thread Matthias Klumpp

  Version : 0.9.24
Upstream Author : The D Language developers, Sönke Ludwig
<slud...@rejectedsoftware.com>
* URL : https://code.dlang.org/
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: D
Description : Package and build management system for D

DUB is a build tool for D projects with support for automatically
retrieving dependencies and integrating them in the build process. The
design emphasis is on maximum simplicity for simple projects, while
providing the opportunity to customize things when needed.

An important property of the build description for each project is
that it only contains the minimally needed information to describe how
a package is built, skipping things such as build type (debug,
release, unittest etc.). What is specified can be done so in a mostly
platform and compiler agnostic way using abstract fields.

See also https://github.com/D-Programming-Language/dub for details.

I am using dub for a project and having it in Debian would be a great thing.
Ideally, the package should sooner or later be team-maintained together with
other D packages (as part of the D team in Debian?).
Until that is decided, I plan to put it into collab-maint.

Awesome, thanks a lot! You did a really great job with integrating
ostree as a package with Debian, I didn't get that far back then when

The package currently seems to have vanished from the archive index

Sounds good :) My idea would be a new team for bundled-apps, since
there's quite some software belonging into that category... (Maybe
something AppStream would fit in too)
But for now, I think, adding another team just to add another team is
useless if it's just us two working on it, so we can add a new team
when it's actually needed :-)

Thanks again for working on this!

This is now a dependency of the appstream-generator, which is the
primary reason I want it. The secondary reason is because it might in
the long run reduce the amount of generated code shipped with the
current gtk-d packages.
It also is generally incredibly useful, as it allows using any C

The packaging will be done under the D team umbrella or maybe GNOME

Diet is a generic compile-time template system based on an XML-like
structure. The syntax is heavily influenced by pug (formerly "Jade")
and Haml and outputting dynamic HTML is the primary goal. It supports
pluggable transformation modules, as well as output modules, so that
many other uses are possible.

This package is now a required dependency for the Vibe.d web framework.

The packaging is done under the D team umbrella at
https://anonscm.debian.org/git/pkg-d/diet-ng.git

Bug#597196: ITP: neuron -- simulation environment for computational models of (networks of ) neurons

retitle 597196 ITP: neuron -- simulation environment for computational
models of neurons
owner Matthias Klumpp <m...@debian.org>
thanks

I will give this a try, under the umbrella of the Debian Science team
(but I can transfer it to whatever place any other interested party
might like later).

The tricky bit for this packaging is the custom version of InterViews,
and from a bunch of tests I ran I think the only viable option here
will be to include an embedded copy of it in the NEURON package (which
isn't great, but still a much nicer option than any alternative).

Cheers,
Matthias

Sorry for the much delayed reply, I actually wanted to write a message
immediately after I saw the ITP report, but that task somehow got lost...

I think uploading the older version when a more recent one is available
is just silly ;-)
So, go ahead!
It would be nice though if we could maybe collaborate easily on the
packaging, so maybe putting it under team-maintenance or into
collab-main would be nice :-)

Cheers,
Matthias

Bug#906673: ITP: debspawn -- Debian package builder and build helper using systemd-nspawn

2018-08-19 Thread Matthias Klumpp
Package: wnpp
Owner: Matthias Klumpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: debspawn
  Version : 0.1.0
  Upstream Author : Matthias Klumpp
* URL : https://github.com/lkorigin/debspawn
* License : LGPL-3.0+
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : Debian package builder and build helper using systemd-nspawn

Debspawn is a tool to build Debian packages in an isolated environment.
It uses systemd-nspawn instead of plain chroots to for the build
environment. This allows Debspawn to isolate
builds from the host system much further, and allows for features like
per-build resource control.
Debspawn also allows to run arbitrary custom commands in its environment.
This is used by Laniakea workers to execute a variety of non-package builds
and QA actions in the same environment in which packages are usually built.

This tool was created as a quick hack at DebConf, but has proven to be really
useful, and is now part of the Laniakea suite for managing a Debian archive.
Packaging Laniakea itself is planned, but that will take a while and a lot
of upstream changes.
Debspawn is standalone and useful without it, so it's the first tool to
make it to Debian proper.

I intend to maintain the package in a soon-to-be-created Laniakea Team
on Salsa (or alternatively, in collab-main).

Bug#906072: ITP: ogon -- ogon session manager and RDP server

2021-01-27 Thread Matthias Klumpp
Hi Mike and everyone else involved with this packaging project!

First of all, thank you for working on this, ogon looks like a rather
complicated thing to package.
I would like to ask what the status of this project currently is. Do
you think that there is any chance this could still make it into
bullseye? Is there anything you would need help with?

Cheers,
Matthias

Bug#991471: ITP: systemd-zram-generator -- Auto generator for zram devices to systemd service.

2021-10-05 Thread Matthias Klumpp
Hi Heysion!

Are there any news or progress on this packaging effort? We would like
to use the zRAM-generator in the PureOS Debian derivative, and
therefore packaging it for Debian makes a lot of sense.
So, if you need any help with this, be it packaging, maintenance or
upload sponsorship, please let me know!

Cheers,
Matthias

Bug#1060284: ITP: laniakea -- Repository management suite for Debian-based OSes

2024-01-08 Thread Matthias Klumpp
Package: wnpp
Owner: Matthias Klumpp
Severity: wishlist

 Package name: laniakea
 Version : 0.1
 Upstream Contact: Matthias Klumpp
 URL : https://github.com/lkhq/laniakea
 License : LGPL-3.0
 Programming Lang: Python
Description : Repository management suite for Debian-based OSes

Laniakea is a software suite to manage Debian derivatives. It provides
tooling to maintain an APT archive (and multiple individual package
repositories), perform QA on it, autobuild packages, and provides
various tools for better insight into the archive, such as web
applications to view archive details, a Matrix bot and a ZeroMQ-based
message bus to plug in custom tooling.

In order to make this useful as a Debian package, quite a bit of
preparation still has to be done upstream, especially some crucial
parts need better documentation, so the project can be used by people
outside its two original Debian derivatives, Tanglu and PureOS. Having
a package for it will make the project a lot more accessible though.
I expect packaging this to take a while, some dependencies like
Mautrix are not yet in Debian, and JavaScript components are always a
pain (fortunately, Laniakea only has few of those).

Packaging will be maintained at https://salsa.debian.org/laniakea-team/laniakea

Cheers,
Matthias
