Bug#258097: Beagle packaging progress

So back to my question: Does Beagle use FAM or directly the inotify
interface?

No, I have not contacted him. And the problem with that patch is that I
don't know if building a module is enough, or it is a bit more
intrusive. If not, that could be done (but I'm not very keen of
 maintaining a kernel patch)

I am neither, but it could be a temporary solution until it enters the
stable branch.

So there is no support for FAM which all other GNOME applications use?

Did you contact the 2.6.9 kernel maintainers already? To me the patch
seems fairly small compared to others. There might be even the
alternative to build a ``kernel-patch-inotify'' temporary and have
``beagle'' in experimental until inotify hits the stable kernel tree.

If there is not inotify patch in the kernel, fam can use polling:
http://oss.sgi.com/projects/fam/faq.html#fam_no_imon

And AFAIK, Debian kernel has not such patch:
http://costa.wiggy.net/svn/kernel/tags/kernel/source/2.6.9-2/kernel-source-2.6.9-2.6.9/debian/patches/?rev=0sc=0

 Hi,

Thanks for your help. Basically Beagle has an important problem now,
which is the need for an inotify enabled kernel, which is not shipped in
Debian as a default kernel (a patch for the kernel is needed)

http://beaglewiki.org/index.php/Installing%20Beagle

So, if you have any idea on how we can cope with this, it will be
welcomed.

 Thanks.
