Bug#895253: ITP: elisa -- Simple music player with a focus on Plasma desktop integration and privacy

2018-04-14 Thread Matthieu Gallien
Hello,

I would like to clarify the local versus online music features in Elisa.

We plan to first focus on very good support for local music before trying to
support online services.

Local music was the focus of the 0.1 version and will probably be also the
focus of the next version.

I have started looking at online services and most of the popular ones no
longer provide a simple way to use them outside their clients. We will need
time to add support for them.

We would also want to add support for MusicBrainz for example even if again
the priority is to first support correctly local music before adding support
for that.

Best regards

Just to make this more obvious: this is not a dig on _elisa_, this is a dig
on everything else.

As for elisa, it would be nice if you could make it obvious what the
upstream writes: that online services are not a development priority -- this
player is supposed to be good for offline music, which is exactly what I
want. The current description makes it seem to be a tool for online stuff
_only_, merely with some respect for privacy.

(Re-added CC to the bug -- wrt my wish for the description.)

Elisa is a music player developed by the KDE community that strives to be
simple and nice to use. It tries to be flexible to account for different
workflows and use-cases. It focuses on a very good integration with the
Plasma desktop of the KDE community without compromising the support for
 other environments.
 .
Elisa is developed using modern KDE technologies and aims to be reliable
and respectful of users’ privacy. As such, it favors online services where
users are in control of their data.
