A link to the lenny to squeeze upgrade procedure

2011-03-09 Thread Laurent Pointal
Hello,

You should place a more visible link to the page for upgrade procedure,
eventually near the clean install procedure, because this page:

http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/release-notes/ch-upgrading.en.html

is not really easy to find (even google doesn't put it in firsts results [*]),
and it is full of things to care about.

Thanks for the software and docs.

A+
Laurent.

[*] searching for debian squeeze upgrade site:debian.org, it is at the
bottom of third result page.

Hello, Laurent. Thanks for your comment.

I think it's clear enough.
On the main page [0] in the 'Getting Started' section said:

If you're upgrading to the latest stable release from a previous version,
please read the release notes [1] before proceeding.

 0 : http://www.debian.org/
 1 : http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/releasenotes

So if you want to upgrade your system you really should read this *whole*
document, which contains section 'Upgrades from Debian 5.0 (lenny)'.

Proposal for mainpage layout (ML button)

2011-03-09 Thread Alexander Reshetov
Hello,

I create mockup [0] for the mainpage.
The goal is reduce mainpage which huge now and improve representation.
For this i introduced mailing list button (like RSS buttons).
I added pop-up message (Subscribe to RSS/Mailing List!) when link(button) is
hover, both for the RSS and ML in case if it isn't clear enough what
this buttons do.
Also i changed headers of 'News' and 'Security Advisories' which are links
to the News and Security pages (thanks symoon for the idea).
So with this improvements we can remove text about subscriptions and links to
the News/Security pages under recent entries. Which will save some space on
the main page.

Yes. But news in the main page linked only to the debian-announce.
To the ML debian-news lead link from page News/project which btw will be super

Hi, since Debian 5.0 is out and even if it is quickly mentioned in the
announce [1], it would be nice if there was some evident link of
Debian Live
existence on either [2] or [3] with pointers to the cdimage mirror [4].
I think not only d-l but the whole project would benefit of such
better visibility.
