I wonder if we could accommodate both categories of Debian Policy
readers instead of dropping support for more experienced readers?

I propose to do it by placing both versions of the document into the
same directory and then setting the DocumentIndex Apache configuration
option to prefer the single page document over the multi-page one.

The advantage of this is that we accommodate folks who prefer the
existing multi-page document and no existing URL will break but that by
default new users will get the single-page version.

The only problem with this is #877573 but that also affects offline
readers of Debian Policy anyway so it needs to be fixed anyway.

I have verified with diffoscope that the _static and _images
directories are identical between the two documents.

If there are no objections to this then I can do the changes needed.

As of today, this manual has nothing to offer for Debian stretch 9.1 and 
iOS 11.0.1. The various solutions for older combinations fail for me. 
Even worse, this manual seems to be in a raw, cluttered state even for 
older Debian versions. Please test and update with at least one working 
scenario for this combination.


Ideally, this manual should let the user choose his/her Debian version, 
his/her iOS version, and direct him/her to the corresponding howto.

May I also point out that mails pointing out defects and deficiencies
in wiki pages are not too infrequent on debian-user. The response is
generally along the lines of "Guess what? It's a wiki." The OP very
often respond saying they now understand the purpose of a wiki but
decline to take it further, sometimes because they think their limited
knowledge would not be up to the job of undertaking the task. This is
fair enough and understandable.

I do not think I have ever seen a response from a poster proposing a
commercial relationship, either seriously or in jest.

You are not obligated to contribute anything to any page; but neither
is anyone else. Also, Package: wiki.debian.org is for filing bugs
against the operation of the wiki, not for bringing about changes in
its contents. The latter is in the hands of its users.

Closing this report again on those grounds.

In that case I would suggest either we either leave the page as-is in
hope that someone has the motivation to fix the upage, or delete the
page entirely. Either way, the bug should remain closed.

Dear Brian:

I'm not aware of any of the involved interfaces.  Therefore, if I were 
to make stretch working with iPhone with iOS 11, I'd assume that I'd 
need documentation on the interfaces (which might be proprietary in case 
of iOS 11) and about one full-time week.  I'm on the job market from 
December 2017 if Debian is interested in hiring me.

You appear to have a grasp of what needs to be done. All it needs to

improve the page is to offer your input. I'd suggest opening an account
at https://wiki.debian.org/ and fixing the page to be more useful for
stretch users.
