Hi all,
many thanks (Laura and Adam and Paul) for your inputs that have been
adopted.

Here is the new version to send next monday.

Still I find the title "Debian install Media Vendors" very long but I do
not see better right now.

Any idea still welcome until the mailing day.

Thanks Holger.

I tried to submit a new vendor:
https://cgi.debian.org/cgi-bin/submit_cdvendor.pl

But I get an error:

The following entries were submitted:
Submission-Type: new
Vendor: Test vendor
URL: https://france.debian.net
The specified web site (https://france.debian.net) cannot be accessed.
The error message returned was: 500 Can't connect to france.debian.net:443
(certificate verify failed)
If you don't understand this error message, please contact us.
Entry not submitted!

(certificate seems working with my browser)

Do you have noticed same error with others sites ? I also guess that is why
cdvendors is not really used (I saw lastly your email in november th 29
in 2016).

Happy new year by the way!

Bug#783902: www.debian.org: Add (md5|sha*)SUM signed files to the torrent live iso download page

2015-04-30 Thread Alexandre Delanoë
Hello,
checking the urls, this bug mainly deals with cd list since just adding
symbolic links would resolve it (script at the end of the email):

2015/05/01, 06:53, Alexandre Delanoë:
 Package: www.debian.org
 Severity: normal

 Dear Maintainers,
Trying to download the Jessie live CD on this page:
 http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/current-live/amd64/bt-hybrid/

I did not find any SHA*SUM files to verifiy the integrity of the
 (great) iso I just downloaded.

Then there is no check file on previous page whereas they are on that page:
 http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/current-live/amd64/iso-hybrid/

Then a bittorrent user has to search this information link this
supposing he is on bt-hybrid page: going back, search for sums on the
 previous page:
 https://www.debian.org/CD/live/
(no link either) then to finally find it on iso hybrid page.

Soltuion: add same links as on iso hybrid page as on the bitorrent
 page.

It would enable navigating easily on Debian WebSite as a torrent in its
 banks.

Solution:

cd $PATH/debian-cd/current-live/amd64/bt-hybrid/

for file in ../iso-hybrid/*SUMS ../iso-hybrid/*sign; do
ln -s $file
done

Maybe ?

Have a nice day and congratulations for Jessie release!

Bug#783902: www.debian.org: Add (md5|sha*)SUM signed files to the torrent live iso download page

2015-04-30 Thread Alexandre Delanoë
[resent for the bug tracking archive]

Hello,
checking the urls, this bug mainly deals with cd list since just adding
symbolic links would resolve it (script at the end of the email):

2015/05/01, 06:53, Alexandre Delanoë:
 Package: www.debian.org
 Severity: normal

 Dear Maintainers,
Trying to download the Jessie live CD on this page:
 http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/current-live/amd64/bt-hybrid/

I did not find any SHA*SUM files to verifiy the integrity of the
 (great) iso I just downloaded.

Then there is no check file on previous page whereas they are on that page:
 http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/current-live/amd64/iso-hybrid/

Then a bittorrent user has to search this information link this
supposing he is on bt-hybrid page: going back, search for sums on the
 previous page:
 https://www.debian.org/CD/live/
(no link either) then to finally find it on iso hybrid page.

Soltuion: add same links as on iso hybrid page as on the bitorrent
 page.

It would enable navigating easily on Debian WebSite as a torrent in its
 banks.

Solution:

cd $PATH/debian-cd/current-live/amd64/bt-hybrid/

for file in ../iso-hybrid/*SUMS ../iso-hybrid/*sign; do
ln -s $file
done

Maybe ?

Have a nice day and congratulations for Jessie release!

Re: Sell CD/DVD +USB?

Hello,

It seems reasonable to add new media that is used for boot media for
devices that can boot d-i, I don't see any need to mention media that
can't be booted from (can SD/uSD cards be booted?).

I have tried with raspbian already (but there is a hack in fact to make
it bootable); I should try with a simple dd debian.iso to be sure.

I just tried to boot on SD card with a simple dd debian.iso
= It does not boot by itself.
= It could following raspbian approach then.

Indeed.

I doubt the Debian media vendors page would ever be considered

 I think so yes.

Indeed.

That hasn't prevented Debian from distributing DVD or BD disk images
and it shouldn't prevent us from listing vendors of those on our

Sure.

I just wonder how long would become the list if we add all the names

Indeed it could be informative to select a vendor according to its

In the short term we could add all of them but what about the long

It is missing DVD already so you could also add USB too I think.

Ok, it would became CD/DVD/USB Vendors list.

Hmm, you would then need to add Blue-Rays too.
   What a monster ...

CD/DVD/USB are neutral media whereas Blu-Ray Discs seems to be patented by
  Sony, isn't it ?

Ehm, sorry, I was not aware of that.

Probably change into something like installation media instead?
(and one could discribe it in detail in the first lines of that site like

  Installation media sounds fine IMHO.

selling media like CD, DVD, BR, USB sticks etc. )
^Should be BD according Wikipedia but the
 patent maybe
  problematic, no ?

As said above, I don't know.

Ok, in doubt I only made a patch for USB supports. Many thanks for your
ideas that will improve the website.

Many thanks for supporting Debian.

Cheers,

One question, I wonder if it would be pleasant to announce the new

2014-10-14 Thread Alexandre Delanoë
Hello,
many thanks for supporting Debian by selling CDs and DVDs. We received
your mail in order to be added to the official vendors list. We have
one question and some remarks.

First you seem to have some troubles while sending the form. May you
give more precisions about the bug you encountered ?

Second we had a look at your website. If the title does not explicitly
mention Debian (or GNU/Linux) purpose, it only presents two pages
offering the products (Debian and Ubuntu releases). We have no others
informations about your company and/or the legal terms of the product
you are selling. It is required if you want to be added to the
official vendor list.

Again, we acknowledge your interest for Debian and thank you for
supporting us.

Best regards,
Alexandre

First: I did the last check for active consultants from mid to end of 2013,
so we should wait ~ half a year IMHO, before starting another round
(especially since Raphael did something similar shortly right now :-) )

Ok I write this task in my agenda. I plan it for may 2015.

For the CD vendors lists, do you know when has been sent such mailing ?

Second: you need write access to the webwml CVS repository on
 alioth.debian.org
 for this.

Ok.

Third: this is an example of that mails I sent:

Ok, many thanks. I keep it for the next mailing. I will use it and
validate the mail with you before sending it.

Cheers,

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I can use anonymous access to execute the script.

 [ I dropped consultants@d.o from the loop ]

ok

 From what I see on
 http://anonscm.debian.org/viewvc/webwml/webwml/english/CD/vendors/vendors.CD.check.log?view=log
it's nearly 2 years ago, when I did some checks, but I did not sent
mails to them, I only checked, if their URL is still working and if
 they are selling up-to-date CDs.
So you could start directly with those mails.

Ok.

Please note that the vendors need to follow the rules found on
 https://www.debian.org/CD/vendors/info.en.html under
Requirements for being added to the vendor list.
Vendors not meeting that requirements should also be removed from the list.

Thanks for the warning. Yes I have already checked this.

Again: you should be granted write permissions to the webwml CVS repository,
if you want to maintain the CD.vendors list:
 https://www.debian.org/devel/website/using_cvs#write-access
It would be really cool, if you would take that over!

Done, just asked now.

And also, someone should set up the necessary things, so that you get
mail, when people are submitting a request via
 https://www.debian.org/CD/vendors/adding-form.
 Taffit?

Yes it could be usefull.

Cheers,

Hello,

Have you considered building a common framework for handling all kind of
submissions? CD vendors, consultants, Who's using Debian, etc. could all
be handled with the same tools provided they are flexible enough. There
have been discussions in the past, but nothing materialised. Some ideas
 are collected on
 https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/Webmaster/Submissions

Indeed, I would like to automate this. But does ikiwiki provide a
connexion to a database ? I thaught the main great advantage of ikiwiki
was not using a database. If I am right, I propose such idea:

0) adapt current css to a django form connected to a database.
1) adapt Raphaëls script to populate the database
2) send email with uniq url (token) for each : they update their informations
3) cronly.py ouput the ikiwiki page and/or update git after human reading check

That is just a proposition that correspond to my skills.

If you know another solution, just tell me.

Cheers,

Help for consulta...@debian.org

2014-10-09 Thread Alexandre Delanoë
Hello,
I am current secretary of Debian France Trusted Organization and
after a discussion with Raphaël Hertzog (President of Debian France
in cc), maybe you would need help to deal with mails arriving at
consulta...@debian.org .

I hereby confirm I am ready to help you if you want to.

But from time to time it should be checked, if all the consultants
are still active; this is a huge amount of work, and I would be happy
to receive help on that task. That could be done let's say once a year.

Ok, I can help you on that point starting with the script of Raphaël
and mine eventually (I have already done such things for Debian
France).

The ideal case would be, if you could write some kind of script, which
extracts the mail addresses from the consultant.data file, so that sending
mails to all consultants would be easy. So if you have programming skills,
that would be a real help! (hmm, maybe Raphael has something ready for that?)
Of course your help on processing the answers that we get on that mails
 is also welcomed.

Ok, then, I have some questions. Do you have an example of such email ?
Questions dealing such email:

From: ?
cc : ?
Subject : Are still active ?
Example to inspire the next one ?

Additionally, let me suggest another one:

there seems to be noone maintaining the list of CD vendors on
 https://www.debian.org/CD/vendors/
Probably you have interest to take that over?

Sure, I can update the list and also send an email to see active CD
vendors. Maybe we could add USB key vendors as a question for the
email ? I could eventually propose a on-line survey to have more
informations ?

Regards,
