[Declude.JunkMail] OT DNS Server change

2005-03-16 Thread Danny K
I registered my dns servers about 7 years ago. I want to change the IP
address that they point to. The name will not change. Anyone know where
this is done at or are things different now to register a dns server?

You'd want to change them at the registry where
you registered the domain name. And of course in
your own DNS.

It is don through your domain registrar. They usually will have an online
site to make the change. Otherwise you will have to do a form and sign and
fax for the change.

Many registrars these days use the hostname only, and will pick up any IP
changes you make, though I would recommend staggering the changes to avoid
resolution problems that could come from a wholesale change.

What registrar is it?

Hi
Gary,

I've
come to understand that the changes in 2.0had beensubstantial (and
clearly, the ripple effects of the per-usermessage handlingwere
not fully understood). As a result, the fix has to be equally
substantial(which apparently takes time) - and I'm sure they are
also trying hard tocatch any new bugs that all thisback-and-forth
might otherwiseintroduce.

I
haveno idea if and what input/consultation Scott may be provided while 2.0
was being developed (with the "per user" message handling). However, I'm not
entirely convinced that the blame lies exclusively with the new
developers.

Maybe you missed the post that was made a few days ago.

There have been a number of posts on the JunkMail list regarding the DELETE
issue and a fix is currently being tested both internally and externally.
Subject to receiving a green light from our external testers and no new
issues arising we anticipate delivering a release (2.0.6) shortly.

The changes to 2.0.5 are still currently being tested.

We want to ensure clear communication with our customers.

Do you have specific questions to which we have not responded?

I
agree they have not been communicating with the list and keeping everyone

I have
been running it for about 24 hours with out any visible issues. The logging

Be

RE: [Declude.JunkMail] OT: RFC DNS Information

2005-03-16 Thread Andy Schmidt
Hi Keith:

By definition, a hostname with a private domain can not be validated by
anyone outside your LAN (as it will no resolve through public DNS).

When your client uses an private domain in the HELO string when contacting
SMTP servers on the Internet, then those mail servers can not qualify the
HELO string using the public DNS, thus it is not a 'valid' hostname in that
context (because a lookup will not succeed).

If your client insist on using a private domain in the HELO string, then I
suggest they route their outbound traffic through their ISP's/access
provider's SMTP server as a smart host.

Re: [Declude.JunkMail] Any word on the 2.06 release?

2005-03-16 Thread R. Scott Perry

Agreed on Scott leaving. And what's up with that anyway? There was
news article I noticed on their site a few weeks ago stating something
about Scott leaving because he wanted to spend more time working for the
Red Cross?
Correct. :) The new article was
http://www.declude.com/Articles.asp?ID=150, and it was short and sweet.

Basically, I needed a break. I had been putting so much time into Declude
over the past close to 5 years that I didn't have time to do some of the
things that I wanted to, such as volunteering at the Red Cross. Before I
started Declude, I was a very active volunteer on their local Disaster
Action Team, responding to hundreds of local disasters (typically house
fires, but occasionally other things such as floods, hazardous materials
incidents, even a hostage situation once). It was very rewarding, and
while I've managed to go to their monthly meetings over these years, I
haven't had a chance to go to the local disasters, and I have really missed it.

Subject: [Declude.JunkMail] OT DNS Server change

I registered my dns servers about 7 years ago. I want to change the IP
address that they point to. The name will not change. Anyone know where
this is done at or are things different now to register a dns server?

Correct. :) The new article was
http://www.declude.com/Articles.asp?ID=150, and it was short and sweet.

Basically, I needed a break. I had been putting so much time into
Declude over the past close to 5 years that I didn't have time to do
some of the things that I wanted to, such as volunteering at the Red
Cross. Before I started Declude, I was a very active volunteer on
their local Disaster Action Team, responding to hundreds of local
disasters (typically house fires, but occasionally other things such
as floods, hazardous materials incidents, even a hostage situation
once). It was very rewarding, and while I've managed to go to their
monthly meetings over these years, I haven't had a chance to go to the
local disasters, and I have really missed it.

Scott,
You are a good man for your volunteer work.
Good job...

Re: [Declude.JunkMail] OT DNS Server change

Ahh...Network Solutions is (or at least used to be) one that cached the IP
address. So, you will need to go into Account Manager and update the IP
addresses for the nameservers. I definitely recommend changing one, waiting
24-48 hours for the changes to be recognized, then changing the other(s).

Darin.

The domain in question is registered through Network Solutions.
