RE: [Declude.JunkMail] WAY OT: COVAD VOIP

2005-12-13 Thread Dave Beckstrom
Hi Guys,

I have a T-1 in my house and I work from a home office in Minnesota. I have
a sales person in New Mexico.

Ideally, I'd like a VOIP service where when someone called me they would get
a message like press 1 for sales, press 2 for Dave. The idea being that it
would route the call either to her or to me. We would need voicemail and
caller ID too.

Does Vonage provide these kinds of services and if not does anyone have
another service they might recommend? I want to give callers the impression
that we are a much larger company then we are.

Thanks!

I have had some experience with Linux based PBX systems and have found

2005-12-13 Thread Avolve Support
We've been using Nuvio since April of this year and have not looked back. Have
not experience the problems that we encountered with Commpartners.us or Vonage,
the quality has been much better than expected.

Vonage didn't work well over our wireless network for unknown reasons except
for the way they play with mac addresses.

We have the residential ata's in place and we use the nPBX versions of the
service in the office over our wireless and it just flat out works great.

Oh, well we can also resell it too, but so do a lot of people. It works great
here.

Dave,

My partner and I are using a similar setup, I'm in PA and he's in FL. We use www.gotvmail.com. You get an toll free number with multiple mailboxes which will forward to any phone. It has automated attendent and has the option of attaching the voice message to an email as an audio clip. Our fax goes through it as well and comes to us attached to an email as a pdf. We have been very happy with it.

You can do that with Nuvio, especially with the nPBX service. Main number
somewhere else, extension phone in some other state. Voicemail, caller-id,
3-way calling, call transfer, call fowarding and much more.

I'm practicing, can ya tell. No seriously it works great.

Re: [Declude.JunkMail] WAY OT: COVAD VOIP

2005-12-13 Thread Dave Doherty
That is one failing of Vonage. They do not provide dial-tone routing or any
sort of PBX services like that. They do have something that might work for
you, though. It's called simul-ring and it mans that incoming calls also
ring at another number. So let's say you have a slaes number on your cards.
It can ring simultaneously in MN and NM. If your NM guy's phone rings more
than a couple of times, you can pick it up.

There is one other very, very cool feature. You can select a number that is
almost anywhere in the US, and maybe Canada also. Want to make your presence
known in Virginia? Get a 703 number. They'll never know you're in MN.

Check out www.onebox.com (virtual receptionist). Combine it with vonage.

 Hi Guys,

I have a T-1 in my house and I work from a home office in Minnesota. I
 have
a sales person in New Mexico.

Ideally, I'd like a VOIP service where when someone called me they would
 get
a message like press 1 for sales, press 2 for Dave. The idea being that
 it
would route the call either to her or to me. We would need voicemail and
 caller ID too.

Does Vonage provide these kinds of services and if not does anyone have
another service they might recommend? I want to give callers the
 impression
that we are a much larger company then we are.

 Thanks!

extensions and an 800 number and the first 300 minutes of talk time.
Another 2000 minutes is an additional $25 a month.

RE: [Declude.JunkMail] WAY OT: COVAD VOIP

2005-12-12 Thread calvis
Yes this is Way OT :)

The good thing about Covad VOIP is that they will provide you with a SLA
which is rare for a VOIP provider.

The Cons are:

1) You have to use their switch router brand of phones.
2) Rates are not really that good compared to other VOIP providers.
3) Their interface is limited. i.e. you can't customize the interface to
work with CRM programs.
4) DID selection is limited. i.e. they could not provide Taiwan DIDs or me.

Alternatives are:

http://www.asterisk.org/
http://www.digium.com/
http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-asterisk

This requires some IT resources in learning and understanding, but the
possibilities are unlimited.

Re: [Declude.JunkMail] WAY OT: COVAD VOIP

2005-12-12 Thread Dave Doherty
I use Vonage - $25/mo unlimited for home use. Been using it for about six
months, and the only problem I encountered was an occasional breakup of the
voice channel while downloading large files. I was using it on a Covad 384k
DSL line, which I just dropped in favor of Verizon's Fios service. The VOIP
works perfectly with the greater bandwidth Fios offers (15mbps down, 1.8mbps
up). You need a minimum of 90kbps for each voice channel, so be sure you
have enough bandwith available.

There are a few features you can't get - at least not yet. The main one that
I miss is one Verizon offered that blocked incoming calls if the caller
cloaked his caller ID. I always figured that if the caller didn't want me
know who he was, I didn't really care to talk to him anyway. But that is
MUCH less of an issue now that we have the national and statewide (NJ) Do
Not Call registries.

I do keep one copper POTS line from the telephone company for emergency use.
If all else fails, that self-powered copper pair is worth its weight in
gold.

Bat all-in-all, I've never looked back.

Yes, was all over their website when I signed up for the service. It's very
clear that you need to provide the address info, and they make it very easy
to do.

They were actually so pushy about it that I wondered whether they were in
trouble somewhere and a few days later they were on the news about a lawsuit
in Texas.

I have been using Vonage at home and love it. I had tried Lingo before
Vonage and HATED it, although I think most of the problems were due to the
D-Link hardware that they supplied.

I have had some experience with Linux based PBX systems and have found them
to be much more cost effective than hardware PBXs. This along with VoIP
really has the possibility of cutting quite a bit of cost around the office.

I'll agree with Evans.

We tried Lingo and Skype. Vonage is far better. I live in Prague, Czech
Republic 9 months of the year... 3 months in USA. We use Vonage to connect to
North America via phone.

Vonage does have settings to control how much bandwith is used when on the
phone and on the internet at the same time. If you lower the setting from
their default, you do not notice difference in voice or internet downloading;
and the voice quality is good.
