You can legitimately downgrade (or upgrade) from Vista to XP at zero cost. You can phone MS and after some arguing (I know for a fact that MS NZ argued this point initially with someone I know) they will give in and provide you with a legitimate XP license key. The ability to do this is documented

Well I concede that it is useful for non-technical people to protect them from trojans, viruses etc. I've got Vista/XP dual boot so I can test my software on Vista, but I my default boot is XP. Mainly because there are no vista drivers for my TV card, scanner and soundcard. -Original

Vista: I have not actually worked day to day yet in Vista, but two things I see about it I am all in favour of. 1 - UAC - as a long time Unix user used to running as a non admin (root) user I just got used to setting up data folders and ownerships and permissions. It's a necessary evil that is
