You're not the first one to ask. It's a big project. There are
currently no ongoing efforts to add this.
There was another question posted recently which provided links to
projects that provide availability on top of Derby. One of them is Sequoia

You might want to consider something like HA-JDBC for this purpose. It
provides features such as replication as well as distributed search
capabilities.

Check http://wiki.apache.org/db-derby/UsesOfDerby for some
pointers. There are at least 3 data replication systems listed
there which work with Derby.
