Re: [VOTE] Run-off for Derby Logo : who is voting
I think there is something fishy too. I started counting the votes earlier today in anticipation of the final tallying later this evening. I counted 44 votes, and it appears about 17 of them are from folks who have not previously ever posted to any of the mailing lists. The sudden flood of votes for a specific logo yesterday looked kind of odd, especially the one from "noname nolastname", and I'm concerned we might be getting votes from people who joined the list just to cast a vote. But maybe it's just me -- has anyone else thought anything odd? -jean My first thought was that perhaps one person was behind all those addresses. I didn't mention it yesterday because I didn't want to seem paranoid. Now that someone else has brought it up, I will say that those votes seem suspicious to me. The only thing I can think to do is to send replies to those addresses and, if the mail bounces, to throw out the votes. Maybe we could get Jimmy Carter to oversee our voting process. -Jeff Lichtman [EMAIL PROTECTED] Check out Swazoo Koolak's Web Jukebox at http://swazoo.com/
Re: [VOTE] Run-off for Derby Logo : who is voting
Ditto. Reply format is exactly the same in the flood and they are all coming from free email accounts. This is a spam flood and they should be invalidated ... or at the very least removed from the tally pending further confirmations, i.e., listserv join date and/or providing an isp email address to an off-list contact. What a silly thing to do. /SML > Yup - I also got a "bad taste" this morning > > B-) > > > -Original Message- > > From: Jean T. But maybe it's just me -- has anyone else thought anything odd? Is it possible to see how long these people have been a member of the list? If they just joined today or yesterday, then it may be safe to ignore their votes as people who have joined just to vote. Otherwise, they have been members (and a lurker like myself) for a long period of time. If so, it may be best to let the votes stand. I would think that the listserv would have some record of when people joined the list. darcy -- Dr. Darcy Benoit http://cs.acadiau.ca/~dbenoit/
