Hi Nik, all,

First of all, Nik, thank you so much for driving this forward - you're
doing a fantastic job!

   * Upload it to the Wiki page
     (http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Design/Motif) under the new
Motif proposals section (bottom of page).
   * Add a preview image (jpeg/gif/png) if possible (svg preview is
     quite bad).
   * Explain what you were aiming to do with the Design, or more
     importantly, what it communicates.

I've uploaded a rather quick and simple proposal to the wiki page with
some descriptions and self-critique. I realise that it looks a little
kitschy now (double rainbow all the way across the sky...) but I don't
have the time right now to refine it further (or make a letterhead),
but the LibO rounded document corners could be brought into play as
well. On that little tangent, I was also wondering what a bokeh-like
effect with the LibO rounded document corners would look like (if it
was done properly)...

I'm looking forward to seeing what others come up with!

Regards,
Ivan.

Re: [libreoffice-design] Default values

2011-03-07 Thread Paulo José

Hi Ricardo!

These are just some thoughts about your proposals.

*Context sensitive toolbars*: I absolutely agree to you. Putting the
toolbar on bottom edge of screen you don't break the flow of text
(implying a page's scroll) neither cover the content you're trying to
edit. *+1 by change.*

*Autocorrect options*:

* /Apply numbering - symbol/: I've never knew this feature. Now, at
the first time using it, it actually looks cool, but I'm sure I'll
forget this one the next time I'd need to create a list... Although this
option never disturbs my work, so I don't see the need to disable it.
*-1 by change*

* /Apply border/: Other one I didn't know. Of course, you can go
to Format-Paragraph-Border and play with settings. And it's probably
what I'll do when needing to create a line like that. *+1 to change*

* /Apply Styles/: For some reason my Apply Styles is disabled.
Since I can't remember of disabling it, I'll assume I've disabled this
at the its first iteraction to me. *+1 to change*

* /Replace Custom Styles/: I can't understand what this option
actually does.

* /Replace bullets with/: Hum... I think it should be disabled by
default. *+1 to change*

* /Combine single line paragraphs if length greater than/: I can't
understand what this option actually does. I tried to test this option,
but nothing happens.

*Word Completion*: Thank you for this tip! Highly *+1 to change*

*Do we need [to show by default] a Gallery's button*:
- Hum... It seems very deprecated. *+1 to change*

*Do we need [to show by default] a Zoom's button?*
- I think no, since a double click on the zoom text aside the
Zoom Slide brings the same dialog than the toobar button does. *+1 to change

* Do we need [to show by default] a Data sources button.
- I actually use this feature a lot, but I never click on the
toolbar button to use it... *+1 to change*

For now it's all I can to say. My opinion is very limited, since I'm not
a experienced user. But I wish it can help anyway.

Re: [libreoffice-design] Proposal for Saving Information icons on Status Bar

Thank you for the feedback! Perfectly, your suggestion to increase
transparency makes the status info goal seems clear to this icon. Do
you think we could incorporate this on the original icons or the
transparency is on the fly by software?

The application uses the alpha (transparency) values of the original png
file, so you can incorporate transparency into the original icon file.

BTW, the new icon looks very sexy. I appreciate your effort and
artistic sense on making this icon. :-)

Re: [libreoffice-design] Default values

2011-03-07 Thread Christoph Noack
Hi Ricardo,

thanks for this effort - although you know that everybody on a mailing
list might have a different position concerning these things ;-) On the
other hand, it's truly great that somebody started to collect ideas for
that!

Unfortunately, I miss some time to discuss this at the moment :-\ Only
one questions - I've read on your page that the Something similar was
started for Impress under the Renaissance project, but it seems it went
nowhere. From what I can see, most of the pages are actively
maintained, e.g.:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Better_Defaults_General

Another thing that might be helpful to know. If we have to decide
whether items (e.g. toolbar icons) should be available per default, then
we will (sooner or later) require serious usage data for that. At the
moment, we miss the updates by the OpenOffice.org User Feedback
Program [1]. So, if anybody sees the chance to work on that ... that
would be great.

Thanks and bye!

Cheers,
Christoph

[libreoffice-design] Re: Linux / Gnome-Shell high-res icons ...

2011-03-07 Thread Christoph Noack
(CCing the Design Team mailing list)

Hi Michael, all!

@ Design: We've got a hint by Michael concerning our icons ...

Am Montag, den 07.03.2011, 20:34 + schrieb Michael Meeks:
 Hi Christophe / Bernhard,

Meet Jon - working on the UI design for GNOME 3.0 - and he is missing
some high-res icons for LibreOffice to make us look rather pretty in the
 new shell.

Hi Jon! I've consumed quite some information and had a brief look at
Gnome 3 at the FOSDEM. Quite promising, although the crowd around me
made it quite difficult to test it thoroughly ;-)

Are there any new visual guidelines we should keep in mind for Gnome 3
(or all the freedesktop related stuff)?

Jon - any chance of a screenshot showing our current ugliness ? that
can be a galvanizing force; also, I assume this is not WM / window icons
 - but .desktop / application icons (?).

For the others, Jakub was so kind to provide a picture that shows the
issues (have a look at e.g. the Blender icon):
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/24178/app-launchers.png

Quite possibly we have them already; but I've lost the link :-)

Also - I sniff that Jakub Steiner is interested in tango-ising our icon
palettes more so they match better - would you guys welcome that.

General answer: Sure! This would be great :-)

Current answer: We currently depend on some stability concerning our
branding, since your young project is not yet fully known to the public.
The colors are currently part of our branding, so changes affecting so
many places should be done in an coordinated effort - it's already
planned and called Community Branding. So, I'm sure we're happy about
any help, but the decision on its inclusion has to be made by some more
people a bit later.

Since we ship the Tango icons per default, we are even more aware of
that problem. Paulo is currently working (thanks!) on a more Tango-ish
look for the the document icons that also appear in the toolbars.

[ I would CC the design list of course, but Reply-To: mangling would
ensure that none of the above (whom you want to get involved) would get
 a reply so ... ;-].

;-)

Here is a short summary to the Design Team: I provided a link showing
our currently available icons. And I've asked Thorsten whether he can
quickly provide a status what has to be done from a developer's
perspective. And of course, what's missing from our side ...

I don't know what the Red Hat / Novell guys prefer, but I think its
helpful for them that we avoid too many mails in too many mailboxes. So
would it be okay for us, if I ask to keep further discussions (e.g. on
the Tango colors) on this mailing list? At least, until we can come up
with a somewhat final statement...

So, thanks for the mail ... and enjoy your day!

Cheers,
Christoph
