[libreoffice-design] Re: A LibreOffice logo for use on an external web site

2011-05-14 Thread Jared Meidal
Sounds kinda link the old Binder app that used to be included in the MS Suite.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Binder
I really enjoyed it and found it useful when I used MS Office 2000.

Re: [libreoffice-design] designing a logo for the LibreOffice conference

2011-05-14 Thread Bernhard Dippold

Hi ...
(I'd prefer to talk to real people using their real name - and I
definitely won't call you King or Duck)

King Duck schrieb:

Is there a way to take a look at logos from previous conferences?

We didn't have any previous LibreOffice conference, so we can start more
or less right from the beginning.

What we did in OpenOffice.org, can be found here:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/OOo_Conference_Logos

I do not
speak French, but I might be able to help in designing the new logo.

This would be great!

What do you think about the points I mentioned below (as you didn't cut
off the rest of the mail, I can refer there too)?

Perhaps we could use a group of three or four of the Scatter motif
triangles (as outlines?) for the consistent logo part?

Just an idea...

Best regards

Bernhard

  Hello Design Team,

As you know we will have our first LibreOffice conference in October

the event? [...]

While Charles told me, that he personally don't like the skyline graphics
we had on some of the OOoCon logos, I think it would be good for our
branding, if we had a generic logo dedicated to all LibreOffice conferences
with some modifiable parts:

The main visual should stay the LibreOffice logo (with TDF subline as
official community event).

As Charles already mentioned, the name of the location is necessary.

I'd like to see the number in the line of LibreOffice conferences too, but
this might mean that we have to localize the logo (1st / 1ere / 1ste)...

Additionally I think of a constant visual element for all conferences as
well as an area for a dedicated graphic for the specific event.

I don't know if I'll have the time to work on this topic during the next
days (I'll have to attend a congress at Hamburg until Tuesday), so I would
be glad if you don't hesitate to comment, draft and design...

Best regards

Bernhard

Re: [libreoffice-design] Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Are there icons and banners to use on the documentation blog?

2011-05-14 Thread Bernhard Dippold

Hi John, all

I can't work on the topic at the moment - anybody else?

Perhaps some brainstorming about the questions I already posted...

We need to avoid some misinterpretations:
1) The icon does not open LibreOffice locally on the iPad.
2) The icon does not link to the official LibreOffice homepage.
3) The icon does not link to the main LibreOffice blog.

So the icon needs to identify the link target as
- web based
- being a blog
- dedicated to the documentation team.

Adding some graphics inside the document symbol could interfere with the
branding guidelines (http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Marketing/Branding),
because the application icons is just a refined symbol from the logo.

[...] It would appear that the icons would be available only from
the documentation blog. That should let the user know the icons link to the
documentation blog only.

There will be different blogs (marketing for example), so we need some
special blog icons for the different blogs.

The requirements are for two images, one a cover image and one that as
described, sounds like a splash screen. I quote from the wordpress.com iPad
OnSwype section of the settings for the documentation blog,
*
Cover Logo -For best results use a 200×200px transparent PNG

This would be quite large - perhaps we can include all the information I
mentioned...

Launch Screen Image

Readers can add your site to their iPad’s home screen for quick access from
an app-like icon.

The launch screen image is briefly displayed after your site is opened from
an iPad home screen icon, before the cover image appears.

And this I can't understand at all.

Does anybody with an iPad can describe what happens?

- There is an icon on the iPad, called home screen icon?
- What does it show? How does it open a website?
- Can it be linked to any image, changing it's visual appearance?

- The large icon (preview? Splash screen?) is shown just for a few
seconds, and then the cover image appears.

- Is the cover image the same as the cover logo?
- Why doesn't is sits on the desktop all the time?

Use a PNG exactly 768×1004px *

There is an option to use a cover image or not. (This would display a recent
post from the blog)

So the cover image is a recent blog posting?
Does the cover image contain the cover logo?
Sorry, I can't imagine.

Is there any iPad image around with such an image?

What do you think? Is this do-able?

If we understand how they are used, it should be possible - but not by
me at the moment.

I have to prioritize the work stacked before me...

Best regards

Bernhard
