[libreoffice-design] Another look at the Wiki

2019-06-13 Thread Olivier Hallot
Hi

After exporting some literature (books, (1), (2)) to our wiki, I found
the current layout of the wiki pages sub-optimal for comfortable reading.

It hits me to have very long lines in a modern, hi-res screen and pages
with many outline entries creates a long index on top of page.
therefore, contents starts after rolling the page a bit.

Can we consider an alternate layout specific for long readings, where
the width of the screen is reduced and the ToC is placed closer to the
contents? The AOO wiki looks better in this case and can be source of
ideas for our own wiki:

Re: [libreoffice-design] Agenda for the design/UX meeting 2019-Feb-06 (Wed)

2019-02-12 Thread Olivier Hallot
I lead several LO migration in small and big corporations in my
professional life. Macros is a symptom of IT default with respect of
the company business.

As life goes on anyway, support for VBA in LO is partial and solves a
lot of (very) simple situations(*). LO object model uniqueness is to
blame and turns migration a nightmare, support for coding LO
Basic/Python is minimal (I can't code without Xray macro) and LO SDK is
of no use for the end user.

No matter how easy is the languages (Basic, Python, etc...), without a
redesign of the API object *nomenclature*, we will still continue to
make migration of macros a big issue. To be clear, Sheet(0) has a
meaning but ThisComponent.getSheets().getByIndex(0) or
ThisComponent.Sheets.Sheet(0) much less.

Olivier

2019-02-11 Thread Olivier Hallot
Hello Franklin

We are filling these documentation gaps these days, thanks to
LibreOfficiant and myself.

https://help.libreoffice.org/6.3/en-US/text/sbasic/python/main.html

Also, the wiki has many pages on Python. Admittedly, Python macros are
not as integrated as Basic macros, but it works.

Kind regards

I agree that we need to offer the user a choice of which fonts to
download or to not download any at all.

However, I wouldn't say that it's an issue we need to bother with too
much, given that
1) it's highly unlikely that someone will accidentally use an
open-source Burmese font that's also available in Google Web Fonts or
whatever online repository we settle for
2) if it happens, you'll just have one additional font installed; look
at your font list right now and see how many fonts are actually of use
to you

I agree, and yes, it is a separate issue, so it's not on the list for

Actually, this is something separate from that -- it aims to integrate
with a platform-independent online repository like Google Web Fonts or
the Open Font Library.

Is that new feature that pops me to download a Burmese font (in my

So we must have a way to avoid the issue of a file that has just one

 Hi everyone,
I'm excited to announce that a developer has shown interest in integrating
LibreOffice with an online open-source font repository, for the purpose
 of cross-platform compatibility.

LibreOffice would analyze which fonts are used in a document and, if it
found them in the online repository, it would offer to download and install
 them.
It would also promote the use of free fonts to ensure everyone can read a
LibreOffice document the way it was intended.

Now it is up to us to craft the UX. I've started a whiteboard at
 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Design/Whiteboards/Font_Repository_Integration,
so please start submitting your proposals.

[libreoffice-design] Coloring in LIbreOffice

Hi Alexander

I like the blue colors... An improvement IMHO, would be to have many
sets of diagram colors. Today we have to pick each color and change it
one by one. Like the wizzard, where you select the type of chart,
another page could be set to choose the color set.

I also like the idea of

applied to Calc/Writer tables coloring ad other places too.

Note that I'm probably not be able to do _big_ changes.

One of the questions that came up btw was the Handy resources

 others (Documentation comes to mind)?

From my POV, this is the list of stuff, in decreasing order of
importance, that people would want to download:

  * the main installer
  * help
  * documentation

 and with some distance:
  * iso images, release notes, feature list

 Or?

Stefan Knorr (Astron) skrev 2012-06-12 20:19:

  Hi Olivier,

Sure, yet... staying with Arial and TNR, aping Office 2000 is not
 really an option either, though.

Second, - I have not tested - LO may warn me that my legacy documents
 have
new default template and ask for an update. If this is true, this will
 be a
shoot in the head of document preservation.

That's an interesting (theoretical) problem – can you test, please,
 though?
My logic says, this shouldn't happen, also, the styles are usually
 embedded within the document.

Nothing will happen to our current documents since none of them are based
 on the
Avantgarde.ott template. Though if we want to make any changes to
 Avantgarde.ott
templates later and keep the name and location of the template - then the
 user will
get a question if he/she wants to update the styles. We need to avoid that.

Yes that is what I'm thinking... I just didn't know it was restricted to
template name and not the default template.

Hmm... Interesting, it seems that it does not even have to be in the same
 location
just in one of the installed paths or set as default template.

I have no idea what happens if we change one of the built in styles
 which is the
long term goal as I understand it.

The only attributes you can change on the built-in styles are in Tools -
Options - Writer - Basic fonts. When changing them, all new documents based
on the default template will carry the changes.

If we offer Avantgarde.ott as one document template (among others), that is
ok for me. To offer it as default template is another story.

Re: [libreoffice-design] Re: [LibreOffice Conference 2011] Presentation: LibreOffice the State Government of Paraná and Progress of ODF in Brazil

2011-10-11 Thread Olivier Hallot

Unfortunately not.

I was not aware of this issue and I have other plans, which are related
to personal matters.

I hope other Brazilians in the meeting will be available and help Vitorio.

Kind regards
Olivier

Hi
LibreOffice Conference Coordinator,

For my presentation of the day 13 on LibreOffice the State Government of
Paraná and Progress of ODF in Brazil, I need an interpreter of Portuguese into
English.

Suggested interpreter: Olivier Hallot.

I am now embarking to Paris via Air France flight 443, I arrive at 08:00
hours on 11.

Thank you,

Dear speakers,

for the upcoming LibreOffice Conference in Paris, we've prepared an
official conference presentation template. Please consider using it,
since a) it's insanely cool stuff *g*, and b) it really helps to raise
the visibility of our project. Thanks!

You may find the presentation template either in the TDF wiki
...wiki.documentfoundation.org/Marketing/SpecialEvents/LibreOffice_Conference_2011_Paris

... or in the LibreOffice TemplateCenter
(Beta):templates-test.libreoffice.org/template-center/libreoffice-paris-2011-conference-presentation-template

A few notes:
   * the template makes heavy use of Master Pages (the available
slides are just examples) and styles
   * it contains elements (e.g. for flowcharts) you may want to
 copy-and-paste
   * the presentation title in the footer can be added/changed via
 Insert ? Page Number ... ? Footer
   * please use the LibreOffice Color Palette delivered with
 LibreOffice to ensure visual consistency

Looking forward to see you (and your nice looking presentations) :-)

On behalf of the LibreOffice Design Team,
Christoph Noack

[libreoffice-design] TDF stationery, where?

2011-08-11 Thread Olivier Hallot
Hi
Can someone point me where to find TDF stationery (letter templates,
presentations, etc..) I remember I saw once a beautiful letterhead with pale
green squares on the top left of a text document, but my efforts to find it
in the wiki has been so far unsuccessful.

Thanks

We were planning to help with the project, I thought that It could be
useful to run some usability tests so you guys have more data available to
work on.
I could work on the interaction design too, but as we know that is a very
large and complex project and we don't have that many resources available to
help.

I would like to know from you guys what it would be more relevant
