Re: Fwd: [libreoffice-design] Re: Questions on UX/Design category on Discourse

2022-05-14 Thread Eyal Rozenberg

Ok, so, I have to take back what I said, because I conflated Discourse
with Discord (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zSXh4a_1eg shows you what
Discord is like)

I take it that the LO discourse would look like this:

https://ask.libreoffice.org/

but not for users to ask support questions?

And design will be a subforum in Discourse, with its associated feed of
updates and daily digest email of posts?

I'm not saying I'm accepting the opposite position than I had before,
just that I was arguing based on a completely false notion...

Eyal

You can activate the RSS feed or receive a digest email.
Maybe I block all shiny things but the UI looks quite plain to me.

TBH though, I haven't seen what the LO discourse looks like, so
theoretically you may have turned some of them off - though I doubt it.

Haven't seen myself.

Replacing the _list archives_? Surely, you jest. That's like saying a...
say, karaoke bar is a "modern front-end replacing the classic library".
Not sure about listarchive but in the past we had Nabble to store and search
messages sent to the ML. It has been retired and is replaced now by Discourse.

It is also used for https://ask.libreoffice.org/

How was that discussion open? I'm on 3 LO-related channels and nobody
informed any of them that such a discussion was taking place.

It has:

It has the additional benefit of being a
discussion forum, actually forums since we can have categories.

It's not a discussion forum. It's a hierarchy of chat channels. Not at
all the same thing.

2022-05-13 Thread Heiko Tietze

From: Eyal Rozenberg

I actually don't like Discourse. For live chat, meh, I guess it's ok,
but I'd rather have less distracting bells and whistles. I don't see how
it can be an alternative to mailing lists or discussion forums, at all;
I would avoid having a serious discussion there. What are we supposed to
be using discourse for, again?

Discourse is no bells and whistles but a modern frontend replacing the classic
list archive. It has the additional benefit of being a discussion forum,
actually forums since we can have categories.
