How are you sure it's due to the mixer?
Killing the mixer makes the logout continue. I believe killing esd also
makes the logout continue but I assume this is because it wakes up the
mixer.

Uh, nevermind. It works now. Maybe it was just a weird artifact of
having my computer up and running too long between too many updates
(dbus updates, etc.)
