I think this is probably because the positions on the mountpoint, not
the files in the volume, were still set to root:root. Can you please
confirm that the permissions on /media/usbdisk-1 are working?

Binary package hint: alacarte
Open up Alacarte Menu Editor.
Go to the properties of any entry.
Click on the icon button.
Try typing the path to a file.
The dialogue will close which forces you to use the browse feature to get to a
folder.

This was fixed by switching to another icon theme because of size
constraints. The directories were fixed as well.
