I use(d) dapper, and use(d) the default width for the panel, but I am no

It has been upgraded from breezy.

including things like nm-applet, update-notifier and beagle.

the previous nautilus window of the panel keeping it
The consistency issue is a a bug but that's a different topic of the one
discussion initially here
I should say that this doesn't just apply to SMB mounted home
directories as my previous comment implies - it will equally affect the
unmounting of any type of partition/network share.

I can confirm this bug. I'm running an up-to-date Dapper install on
i386.
The problem is that gconfd takes around 10 seconds to exit once the
Gnome session has ended. This means that the files used by gconfd in the
user's SMB-mounted home directory are still in use when pam_mount goes
to unmount

that's a known issue, the backend code runs with the standard user which
doesn't have the right to apply such changes, that's being worked

I didn't they that was not a bug, I just wrote that is was not the same

Because self-learning filters generally perform a lot better after being
trained, when considering both false negatives (no problem if there
aren't many) and false positives (even 1 might get you in trouble). As
