Im trying to run the AMD64bit installer CD, under the boot i removed
splash and quit and added apic=off, to make the system start at all.
Now the desktop has loaded but the sound hangs with beeps from the
intro theme looping some hundred times before it goes over to the next
A big me too on this one.
It's a shame; its the only thing about Edgy that I'd call a showstopper.
Everything else is working swimmingly for me.

Attached is a tarball with sources and binaries of my proposed fix (to
remove hunk #1 of the faulty patch)

No, it's not that risky because members of group admin can also run
sudo. In fact, the security is better than having a root account with a
set password, because having a root password means you need to give it

instead of asoundconf for ALSA). Creating a dapper task to have an open
bug for people that look for it, but it will probably not be fixed in

I use edgy, compiz (xgl) on a x86_64.
When I want to use a new tab (and not a new window), the tab is
unusable... white box only, five minutes later the prompt, and if I
write anything, I have to wait some minutes. for see my

I'm not sure what you mean. Previously when a java file was opened it
was highlighted for java. Now, when I open a java file it is stuck with
C highlighting which means that words like public and class are not
highlighted, but types that are part of c like int are.

This seems to be a dependency issue that a lot of people are talking
about in the forum but nobody is offering a solution to. I was doing a
Dapper=Edgy aptitude dist-upgrade. Almost done, the final result of
ongoing 'aptitude dist-upgrades' returns the following dependency

When I get a power failure (which happens here in the Amazon a lot, even
behind a reasonably-sized UPS), sending a new mail somehow populates
Outbox with a couple of recent mails, which then all get resent together
with the new mail.

grep gnome just returns the grep. I updated all and sundry that's
available, perhaps you need to do the same if you haven't already.

The error message still pops up. When the slider for transparency is
moved to the Opaque and it reaches the end of it's travel I get the

Unable to open system, administration tools, not even as root. When any one of
them are selected round cursor spins, then stops. Logging in as root will, the
first time a tool is selected, bring up an enter password box, the password box
goes away, get the same spinning,

2. Then pop it into an IBM THinkpad 600E
3.it will start and you shoudl select STart or Install
4. wait for it to start loading
5.screen will become black with an underscore only like this: _
