I have the same problem too. Before the update to Edgy works fine, but after it
does not work. Nowadays i only can read/write cdroms and read dvd format, but
can't read nor write data dvds.
This is the output of the revised script:

I'm having quite a similar setup here: 15 LTSP Clients with up to 800 users. I
tried to use alacarte and sabayon for administration, but also had a lot of
trouble with it. If you just want to remove the entries from users' desktops,
you can go to /usr/share/applications and find and rename all
