I have a similar problem while trying to install onto a Core 2 Duo
machine with a Gigabyte 96SP-DS3 motherboard. Killing and restarting
udevd, then waiting for a while lets the installation get a bit further.
That's with the alternate install iso of 20070209.

Sorry,
I'm using sshd and ssh in my local network. Take a look at my
screenshot. After some files are copied, the prozess stops and ETA goes
up and up.
On the other hand when coping the files first from dvd to my pc hd and
starting to transfer the files from there, it works perfectly to the
end.
I cannot reproduce this on Feisty. Upstream have done a lot of stability
work so it's likely fixed. Please re-open if you see it again.

related to starting at-spi, not Orca. We did have some at-spi-registryd

Yup, Feisty is on this laptop. And I've been using eSpeak lately. I
hadn't tried the test in this bug with it, however. Turns out the
problem is slightly worse under those circumstances. With DECTalk, the
second play of the .wav file causes me to lose speech, but not sound.
