Same problem here, bad rendering for (most) PDF files on Evince which
work well on acroread, kpdf, gv, etc. Btw I'm using a Feisty machine
(Breezy-Dapper-Edgy-Feisty upgrade). PS, DVI files work fine.

i open from a panel (e.g. thunderbird). it does not show any sign of
working (no round spinning cursor) and then later i see for some
programs at the bottom pannel an indication starting XX which changes
later into the XX button.

it seems it doesn't want to ping to 127.0.0.1 (i.e. no output):
$ ping 127.0.0.1
